The opening scene sees the trio rowing and Compo fancies an ice cream. You can imagine Ronnie Hazlehurst just itching to add the 'O Sole Mio' tune to the theme.
Seymour has an idea to bring back those old ice cream carts on a bicycle. I know they existed because they still have them in far away places like Mauritius.
With Wesley to actually build a contraption, only a small amount of outlay is required for ice cream and cones. Compo is meant to be a volunteer but he had a bad back.
Seymour has a solution to Compo's bad back problem. An inflatable dinghy. Clegg is not sure how you can take that three times a day after meals.
In these early episodes Seymour was likened to Randolph Scott. He took a risk when standing up for Howard's bicycling activities to Pearl and Nora.
Of course when Compo tests out the cycling cart, he will invariably home into Howard and Marina. Ronnie Hazlehurst even finds time for a Cornetto.
