Even before Octavia Spencer won the best supporting actress Oscar for 2011’s The Help, she managed a hard-worked career that many actresses would envy: Consistent character parts on long-running TV series, read ABC’s Ugly Betty, Comedy Central’s Halfway Home, and TNT’s Raising the Bar, and parts in an array of movies from Martin Lawrence’s Blue Streak to Joe Wright’s The Soloist to the Will Smith movie Seven Pounds. Back in the ’90s, she cut her teeth as a production…...

Move over, Hollywood, the much chillier Vancouver, Canada, has become a hot shooting spot, thanks to its tax breaks and unique ability to stand in for everything from sleepy Maine towns to superhero metropolises (even if its outdoor locales prove tricky in keeping secrets from fans). I suited up for a whopping eight set visits in four days to find out what makes Vancouver and the actors who call it their (temporary) home so special. (Feel free to play a drinking game with the words "rain" and "cold." I dare you.) The homeless 100 Much like the Mountain Men were doing...

When Nina's ex-fiancé tells her he's engaged mere minutes before she's passed over for law partner by a big breasted colleague, she can't help but break everything in the room—champagne flutes, a candy dish, even a vase that Sir Elton John gave the firm. And since her day's going just peachy, the elevator doors refuse to close after she double flips off the entire office, leaving her looking sheepish as elevator music plays. On USA's new comedy Benched, the more uncomfortable it is for Nina (Happy Ending's Eliza Coupe), the more hilarious it is for us. FEARnet is proud to present brand new fiction from Nightmare Magazine. Once a month, we'll be featuring a story from Nightmare’s current issue. This month's selection is “Halfway Home” by Linda Nagata. Please tell us what you think and enjoy! "Halfway Home" by Linda Nagata The airliner’s safety brochure was like every other I’d seen: laminated and perfect, showing a large jet afloat in calm water, the emergency chutes deployed with inflatable rafts at their ends awaiting the arrival of passengers after a perfect water landing. “Those diagrams are terribly optimistic,” the woman in the seat beside me said, eyeing the brochure as our plane climbed away from Manila. She spoke masterful English, clipped with a Filipino accent. “Let’s hope we never have to test that theory.” I turned to her, intrigued. We were seated in the coach section, two women, strangers, traveling alone to Los Angeles.

Bruce Smith of OmniPop Talent Group isn't entirely joking when he defines his job as "identifying talent and supporting that talent until a reluctant and confused industry bends to my will." The Los Angeles-based manager is known for his relentless energy and donning of multiple hats -- from producing to co-writing projects for his clients in an effort to get them to the next step on the career ladder.Best known for producing the cult web series "The Maria Bamford Show" and Comedy Central's "Halfway Home" (for his client Oscar Nuñez, who went on to star on "The Office"), Smith's specialty is comic talent. He's drawn to multi-hyphenates. "They are self-starters and not waiting at the phone for someone else to give them the audition that will change their lives," he says.No one can accuse the Queens native of waiting at the phone. At 11, he was playing the guitar.

American Horror Story Episode Ten: Halfway Home
American Horror Story has me still clutching my pearls, while cowering in a corner trying to figure out why did I deserve such an ass-kicking from last night's episode. Let's list the top "Omfg!!!!" moments of the tenth episode of American Horror Story titled "Smoldering Children," which was an apt title, Imho.
One Tragically Down, Two (Three? Four?) To Go...
The huge reveal about Violet still has my mind reeling and I personally don't know what to think, or rather feel, about the revelation that can only be called a "huge freaking game changer." Granted, I predicted (as well as others) Violet's death after she took that cocktail of sleeping pills back in episode six "Piggy, Piggy," but the way the show was written and shot after that event you really had no clue. The reveal itself was utterly devastating and Taissa Farmiga...

The prison system has spoken: Richard Hatch has survived his time behind bars. The original Survivor winner was transferred from federal prison in West Virginia Monday to a halfway house in Pennsylvania, where he will be held for the next five months. Back in 2006, the 47-year-old Hatch was sentenced to serve four years and three months behind bars for federal income tax evasion after failing to cut Uncle Sam in on a share of his $1 million reality prize. He has been in prison since July of the same year. Carla Wilson, the spokeswoman for the Northeast Regional Office of the Bureau of Prisons, said that Hatch, who has long maintained his innocence in the matter and claimed CBS producers told him they would...

Given the fact that Sean Penn just nabbed an Oscar for playing gay rights pioneer Harvey Milk, surely there is still no stigma attached to playing gay, right?
That’s an easy assumption for many viewers – gay and straight – to make, but what do the men who play these roles believe?
AfterElton.com talked with a number of actors who have played gay roles past and present for their thoughts. Do they think playing a gay role can help, hurt or have no real effect on their careers? How has that changed over the years? What do their peers think? And have we finally moved beyond the stigma a gay role once carried?
Their answers might surprise you.
Surprising reaction to gay role on “Raising The Bar.”

What would it be like to be a professional house sitter? Who cares? What would it be like to be a house sitter who only house sits for famous Hollywood celebs? Now, that might be a little bit more interesting. That’s the premise that’s explored in The House Sitter, an oldschool web serial from way back in 2006 created by Sarah Norton (Gilf and Keep it Green) and her partner Paul Vato of BarrioSpeedwagon.tv, in which Sarah plays a professional house sitter to the stars. Basically, Norton and Vato teamed up with four of their celebrity friends - Mo Collins from Mad TV, David Faustino from Married with Children and the upcoming Crackle series Starving, Drew Droege who appeared in Comedy Central’s Halfway Home and is currently an improv instructor with the Groundlings, and Wendi McClendon-Covey from Reno 911! - for a series where self-important stars get to self-deprecate.

The American version of The Office has arguably the best and deepest supporting cast of any sitcom in history. Beyond stars Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, Jenna Fischer, and John Krasinski there's an entire galaxy of rich secondary players, from Eeyore-like human resources guy Paul Lieberstein to moon man Creed Bratton to gay accountant Oscar Nuñez. An alumnus of the seminal Los Angeles improv troupe the Groundlings, Nuñez scored guest spots on Curb Your Enthusiasm and Reno 911! before landing the role of the uptight accountant Oscar in 2005. Nuñez picked up a Daytime Emmy when the online spin-off The Office: The Accountants scored the first-ever Emmy for Outstanding Broadband Program. In 2007, Nuñez executive-produced and starred in Halfway Home, an improvised Comedy Central comedy about the wacky denizens of a halfway home. The A.V Club recently spoke with Nuñez about his ribald past as a game-show contestant, his infamous kiss...
