  Veronica di Angelo : Fine. We'll have a jump-off. Thursday, 6:00.

• Megan : [Sam is jumping over jumps with Pepper]  Whoo! Go, Sam!

  [Sam continues riding and jumping] 

  Megan : Whoo, Sam!

  Max Regnery : Keep going, Sam. Good.

  Megan : Nice one.

  Max Regnery : Very nice, Sam.

  [Veronica proceeds with Cobalt] 

  Kristi Cavanaugh : Go, Veronica.

  Max Regnery : Nice work, Sam.

  [Veronica rides through the jumps] 

  Kristi Cavanaugh : Look at her go! She's flying!

  [Veronica canters Cobalt too fast] 

  Max Regnery : Slow down, Veronica!

  [Veronica ignores him] 

  Max Regnery : I said slow down!

  [Veronica finishes the course] 

  Kristi Cavanaugh : Not bad!

  Max Regnery : I *never* want to see a stunt like that again, Veronica!

  Veronica di Angelo : [smiling]  I didn't mean to approach so fast, Max.

  Max Regnery : It's a miracle you didn't break your neck... or Cobalt's. Are we clear?

  Veronica di Angelo : [dismissively]  Yeah.

  Max Regnery : Cool him out.

  Kristi Cavanaugh : He totally freaked on you.

  Veronica di Angelo : Don't worry. I can handle Max.

• Max Regnery : You've got a nice rhythm there, Sam. Keep that going. Pepper will try to race towards the jump. Your job is to hold him steady.

  Veronica di Angelo : What's he doing?

  Max Regnery : I hope you don't mind sharing your lesson. Sam was sick last week, and this is the only time we could schedule a make-up.

  Veronica di Angelo : I don't mind. It's just that my parents will be a little upset-- you know, paying for a private lesson.

  Max Regnery : Well, no problem. We'll make this a group lesson. Good, Sam.

  [Sam finishes the jumping course] 

  Max Regnery : Sam the man. Excellent work. You felt Pepper rushing, and you steadied him right back. Way to go.

  Sam : Good boy, Pepper.

  Max Regnery : Okay, Veronica...

  [Veronica proceeds to do the jumping course with Cobalt] 

  Max Regnery : I guess you're ready.

  [Veronica canters Cobalt] 

  Max Regnery : Steady, Veronica! Pull him back!

  [Veronica continues to canter Cobalt] 

  Max Regnery : Bring him to a walk now!

  [Veronica stops Cobalt] 

  Max Regnery : That was a mess! Jumping isn't about racing towards a fence, closing your eyes, and hoping you'll crash through it. Cobalt's a terrific jumper. All you have to do is take your time, set him up properly, and he'll do the rest. Sam, let's see you do the combo one more time. Watch the way he steadies Pepper. This isn't a race.
