If you thought it was only studios like The Asylum who were cranking out giant sea creature flicks for Syfy you’d be completely wrong – Roger Corman and his New Horizon Pictures are still producing the kind of cheap and cheerful monster movies that Corman made his name with to this day. Only unlike The Asylum, Corman and co. don’t seem to want to keep to just giant monsters… Instead they’ve cross-bred their monsters as time has gone on – no longer are they satisfied with plain-old Supergator, their first giant creature flick; nope they’ve brought us the crazy combos of Dinoshark, Dinocroc (who took on Supergator in 2010), Piranhaconda; and their craziest giant killer creature combination, Sharktopus.

Somebody call Roger Corman pronto – it looks like they've caught the actual Supergator. Or is this Dinocroc? We're not really sure, but this alligator is definitely monster-sized, and it's easily as big as the title beast in the 1980 film Alligator, or the killer crocodiles in Lake Placid and Black Water. As reported by Reuters, this group of Mississippi hunters scored a new record on the very first weekend of the state's ten-day alligator hunting season when they bagged this enormous specimen, measuring thirteen feet long and weighing 727 pounds. Gator hunting is obviously quite dangerous (especially if you're the gator), but the sport is becoming more popular in Mississippi, where hunting permits are assigned by lottery only, and hunters are required to take special safety courses. Believe it or not, this gator is not the largest ever found... a fourteen-footer was caught in Florida last year, and some have been reported...

Camel Spiders was just released on Blu-ray/DVD and I was offered the opportunity to interview star Brian Krause (Sleepwalkers, Charmed) about his experience filming the movie. While we only had a brief chat time, I learned about his hate of spiders, working under director Jim Wynorski, and acting with CGI camel spiders.
Thank you for taking the time to talk with me. Camel Spiders is one of those movies that I’ve seen a lot of reader feedback on. Some are disgusted by it, some are excited, and others just don’t enjoy B-movies like this. Camel Spiders is out on Blu-ray/DVD this week and I wanted to find out more about your experience making this film. Can you tell me how you got involved with this movie?

We’ve all been told not to judge something by it’s cover. However, when you see a title like Metal Shifters, Camel Spiders, or Ice Quake, you should probably have an inkling that you’re about to watch a B movie. For the B-lovers out there, these three titles pack some ridiculous moments that are sure to entertain.
Metal Shifters:
Just when you thought there weren’t enough movies about Idaho, Paul Ziller brings B-movie lovers a little gem called Metal Shifters. Having enjoyed an array of farfetched Syfy movies, I can usually take any plot line with a grain of salt. However, with this film, I found myself pondering some simple, moral questions. My biggest quandary stems from the premise of the movie: if a strange, metal object plummeted from the sky, would your first thought be “I wonder how much I could sell that for?” Probably not.

Why does anyone love to watch terrible movies? Maybe we’re drawn in by the bad acting or we wonder why someone like David Carradine was in Dinocroc vs. Supergator. It could be because we want to watch an preposterous concept like Sharktopus, and we hope that just this once, it will actually be a masterpiece. For me, I’m always waiting for the creature reveal. When it comes to recent Roger Corman releases, you can bet on a spectacle of the fantastic and absurd.
With nearly 400 titles under his belt as a producer, Roger Corman is the king of B-movies. While Corman’s monster films might not be for everyone, you can’t deny that he has played a significant role in the horror genre. Who doesn’t appreciate a good ol fashion monster smackdown? Roger Corman certainly does. The prolific producer’s latest is “Dinocroc vs. Supergator”, which, as you might have guessed, pits a Dinocroc against a Supergator. Two enters, but only one leaves! Or some such. Thanks to the good folks over at Anchor Bay Entertainment, we have four copies of “Dinocroc vs. Supergator” to give away to four lucky winners, including two standard DVD copy, and two Blu-ray copies. Read on for the details. The Movie: Monster smackdowns are as old as the movies themselves. Frankenstein vs. The Wolf Man. Godzilla vs. King Kong. Billy the Kid vs. Dracula. Freddy vs. Jason. But now Anchor Bay Entertainment proudly unleashes the ultimate Monster (S)Mash: Dinocroc Vs. Supergator, from Oscar®-winning executive producer Roger Corman. Dinocroc Vs. Supergator reunited Corman with cult star David Carradine (Death Race 2000, Kill Bill), in one of his final performances.

Mid-July is going to be a good time for DVD and Blu-ray releases featuring people getting eaten alive. Dinocroc and Supergator take time out between rounds to devour anyone in their path. Native American lycan legends go on the prowl in Maneater and Monster Wolf. Most importantly, the Australian Open Water-ish shark thriller The Reef finally surfaces on American shores.
The people chomping begins on July 12th when Anchor Bay releases the Roger Corman produced, Jim Wynorski directed, Syfy original creature feature Dinocroc vs. Supergator (review here). The late David Carradine makes one of his final appearances in this monstrous smackdown that sees genetically engineered reptilian rivals escaping their confines and chomping their way through a series of scientists, tourists, and bikini babes in Hawaii. The actors chew the scenery almost as much as the monsters.

Anchor Bay will release Dinocroc Vs. Supergator, the latest giant monster smackdown movie from legendary film impresario Roger Corman (Sharktopus), on Blu-ray and DVD on July 12.
The rumble is on in Dinocroc Vs. Supergator.
Scientist Jason Drake (the late David Carradine, Dark Fields) has been holed up deep within a secret island laboratory of an unscrupulous biotech corporation meddling with the laws of nature, as isolated scientists are wont to do. When he turns his attention from mutating fruits and vegetables to alligators, crocodiles and dinosaurs, something’s bound to grow to horrific proportions and escape—like a gargantuan crocodile and an equally humungous alligator. So, when the titular Dinocroc and Supergator get loose, the two quickly enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet of scientists, tourists, mercenaries and swimsuit models…until their inevitable showdown against each other.

With a career that spans seven decades, Roger Corman has become synonymous with bravura American indie filmmaking. Having directed and produced in most every kind of genre, and launched the careers of everyone from Martin Scorsese to Jack Nicholson, the eighty-five-year-old Oscar winner has nothing left to prove. So the fact that he's now enjoying a new phase of his career, as the mad monster maker behind the Syfy Channel's "Syfy Saturday" movies, is downright inspiring. Dinoshark, Supergator, Sharktopus – they're all born from Corman's legendary fevered brain, and demonstrate a kind of old-school showmanship in their over-the-top insanity that's reminiscent of William Castle and Alfred Hitchcock. In the tradition of mixing creatures and characters you'd never thought you'd see together -- like Supergator, Dinoshark, Gatoroid, Sharktopus and Crocosaurus facing off in a fierce battle to the deadly end -- comes Indican Pictures' 'Bonnie & Clyde vs. Dracula.' Roger Corman did it, so what's stopping director Tim Friend from doing it? Nothing, apparently, and he's even managed to get a theatrical release of March 18 (according to MovieLine) for his gangster tale meets bloodsucking fiends.
Scream queen Tiffany Shepis and horror actor/writer/director Trent Haaga star as the iconic couple, who also happen to be cold-blooded killers. When a botched robbery injures one of their cohorts, Bonnie and Clyde seek help at a nearby mansion -- home of the strange and macabre Dr. Loveless and his imprisoned sister, Annabel. The Doctor has another secret in his cellar, though -- the ancient vampire Dracula.

How can you possibly top Sharktopus? One word: Piranhaconda!
Matchflick brings the news that Dinocroc/Dinoshark/Supergator/Sharktopus producer Roger Corman has another high concept mutant up for cinematic gene splicing, a hybrid of a piranha and an anaconda. Sharktopus scribe Michael MacLean is penning the script to be directed by Jim Wynorski of Chopping Mall, Return of Swamp Thing, and Dinocroc vs. Supergator fame.
The movie revolves around the battle with a creature "with razor sharp teeth and 100 feet of constricting power."
That's all we know right now plot-wise, and when talking about a movie titled Piranhaconda, that's really all you need.
Shooting begins next month in Hawaii. The only announced cast member at this time is Diana Terranova (8212: Gacy House, Milf).
No doubt we'll see Piranhaconda slithering around Syfy sometime in the future.

Burbank - Traci Lords was the biggest name in showbiz in 1986, but for all the wrong reasons. She had become a major star in the adult industry. Her run started as Penthouse Pet of the month for the issue that exposed Vanessa Williams in September of 1984. Dozens of video titles appeared as she became the it girl noted for her youthful looks.
There was a reason for her looking so young: she’d used fake IDs to appear 20. She was under 18 in dozens of her adult films. Only one was made after she turned 18. The FBI and other police agencies poured over the valley investigating everyone connected to the industry. In the midst of this ugliness, Traci Lords still dreamed of being an actress. Luckily she found entry into the profession through the gates of Roger Corman’s studio.
She was signed to remake Not of This Earth with Jim Wynorski directing.

From Syfy, the channel that brought you Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus, Mega Piranha and Dinocroc vs.Supergator, comes the next big “thing” in underwater terror… Sharktopus!
Syfy have released three new clips from the film which comes from the production studios of Roger Corman and answers that oft-asked question: Just what would happen if a shark and an octopus mated? Sharktopus, that’s what! Not really, here’s the film official synopsis:
The U.S. Navy has commissioned a group called Blue Water to genetically engineer a half-shark, half-octopus to help combat Somali pirate ships. Then things go wrong.
Sharktopus stars Eric Roberts and is directed by Declan O’Brien (Wrong Turn 3).

This is that Roger Corman and Syfy Channel's schlockfest -- a Navy-engineered killing machine that's a shark in a dress made of tentacles -- I told you about earlier this year. It capitalizes on the straight-to-video pic Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus on Yahoo's Top 10 most viewed trailers of 2009. So Karen O'Hara, Syfy's boss of original movies, announced via Twitter a greenlight for the long gestating Sharktopus! Love that Corman, who's already made Supergator, Dinocroc, and Dinoshark, has given the pic a fab Beach Blanket Bingo vibe. This weekend the Syfy channel aired the latest Roger Corman creation, Dinocroc vs Supergator. The movie was the inevitable combination of Dinocroc and Supergator, the two past films made by the legendary producer for the network. Corman, often called the King of the B-movies, is best known his low budget sci-fi flicks, but he also has had mainstream success with his Edgar Allen Poe movies, including The Fall of the House of Usher and The Raven, and cult classics like Death Race 2000, Children of the Corn, and Rock and Rock High School.
With an astounding 550 films under his belt it's no wonder the Academy honored him with a Lifetime Achievement Oscar in 2009. But his one work is just part of the story. Throughout the course of his 50-year career, Corman has launched the careers of many of today's Hollywood elite.

When you see the late David Carradine open up what is guaranteed to be an awesome B-Movie slice of Saturday night fun, it bodes well for how the film will unfold. Especially when Carradine's character (Jason Drake) tells his evil right-hand woman Victoria (Aurelia Scheppers) to "call the Cajun." That scene was prompted by our evil mogul Drake's experiment gone awry, as nature doesn't play nice with meddling humans, and in these sort of films it is always beasts born of human hubris and greed that come back to bite you, or in Syfy's latest "Dinocroc vs, Supergator's" case, swallow you whole. Supergator revs up his hunt for tourists Roger Corman does schlock like no other filmmaker. We...

It seems that in the B-movie giant creatures are the order of the day, you just can’t seem to switch on the TV without another giant creature-feature hitting you in the face: Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus, Mega Piranha, Sharktopus etc. Well the next opus to to air on the Syfy channel is Dinocroc vs. Supergator.
The film is directed by king of the B-movies Jim Wynorski, and is a sequel of sorts to the Roger Corman produced SyFy movies Dinocroc and Supergator. One of David Carradine’s final movies, Dinocroc vs. Supergator also stars Rob Hillis from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition as a croc/gator hunter!

Producer Roger Corman is unleashing "Dinoshark" this Saturday on the Syfy channel. This will be followed soon after by "Sharktopus" (with Eric Roberts), then "Dinocroc vs Supergator," and then maybe "Dinoshark vs Sharktopus." "The chances are 100% that you will get 'Dinocroc vs Supergator.' We're working on that right now," Corman said. "If people like it, we'll probably do 'Dinoshark vs Sharktopus.'" Corman explained that Dinoshark made sense; it is a prehistoric dinoshark whose sperm got trapped in ice. The ice melts after many years and dinoshark attacks. Sharktopus, on the other hand, is a bit more complicated. He explained: "There are Somali pirates or terrorists operating in local waters in small boats. The Navy has the assignment to wipe out these Somali pirates and/or destroy the boats of these terrorists, but they cannot send in a Navy ship, because that would be a violation of territorial waters.

Question: How do you combat Somali pirates and terrorists on the high seas? Answer: By genetically combining a shark and an octopus and controlling it so that it can dispatch them for you, without you ever having to fire a shot.
It might sound ridiculous, but it's the premise behind Sharktopus, one of two — and possibly more — B-style monster movies set to air on Syfy beginning this weekend, all from the mind of Roger Corman.
Here's how the producer described the concept in an interview with Sci Fi Wire:
"There are Somali pirates or terrorists operating in local waters in small boats. The Navy has the assignment to wipe out these Somali pirates and/or destroy the boats of these terrorists, but they cannot send in a Navy ship, because that would be a violation of territorial waters."
"So [the fictional company] Blue Water has been given the assignment to create a super-deadly...

Want to know what the titular monster of Roger Corman's Dinoshark looks like? Want to know how and why a shark gets genetically crossed with an octopus in Corman's forthcoming Sharktopus? Don't deny it. You know you do. Just read on.
The Hollywood Reporter's Live Feed blog has two major earth-shattering exclusives regarding the future of Roger Corman-produced monster moviemaking. The world has been buzzing ever since news broke that Roger Corman and Syfy were colluding to gift the world with a motion picture entitled Sharktopus. How does such an unlikely mutant come about?
"The U.S. Navy has commissioned a group called Blue Water to genetically engineer a half-shark, half-octopus to help combat Somali pirate ships. Then things go wrong."
Makes perfect sense, doesn't it? That's the point, as Corman explains.
"It's fairly difficult to believe, but we only ask the audience to accept this one thing,...

Back on January 3rd, I posted this Mogul Tip: Make More Movies With Sharks after the straight-to-video pic Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus finished No. 8 on Yahoo's Top 10 most viewed trailers of 2009. Now the Internet is all atwitter because Karen O'Hara, the director of original movies at Syfy, has announced via Twitter a greenlight for the long gestating Sharktopus!. Legendary director Roger Corman is a natural for the project because he's already given us Supergator, Dinocroc, and Dinoshark. If only Peter Benchley were still alive. Above is graphic artist Matt Leach's rendition of what the creature feature might look like. Below are O'Hara's [...]...

Now that Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (review here) has become something of a minor web phenomenon, it should come as no surprise that more animalistic movie monsters are being booked to step into the cinematic squared circle and clash in a motion picture smackdown of b-movie proportions. Next up for a monstermania main event: Dinocroc vs. Supergator.
Now here's the odd thing about the prospects of a Dinocroc vs. Supergator movie: They're the same monster. Roger Corman produced Dinocroc (review here) in 2004. He wanted to make a Dinocroc 2. The Sci-Fi Channel balked at a direct sequel because they claimed sequels didn't perform well for them or some typical Sci-Fi brass nonsense. Corman went ahead and made his Dinocroc sequel under the guise of Supergator (review here). The Supergator is the exact same monster as that seen in Dinocroc with a mildly greenish tint to its skin color and some...

You can always count on Roger Corman to bring his b-game to the creature feature genre. The filmmaking legend who has graced us in recent years with Dinocroc (review) and its unofficial sequel Supergator (review) is about to unleash a Dinoshark upon an unsuspecting public.
Details on Dinoshark are almost non-existent at this time. Don't even have a proper plot synopsis. Not sure one even really needs a proper plot synopsis when the title of your movie is Dinoshark. Kind of says it all. No idea who is starring in it or directing; I assume Corman will only be producing as he did with Dinocroc, Supergator, and the just-released-on-dvd Cyclops (DVD review).
What I can tell you is that production has just begun down in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I can also tell you about a little tidbit Mr. Corman told now former New York Post gossip columnist Cindy Adams this...
