It's probably no secret to anyone who pays attention to movies even a little bit, particularly people who enjoy going to theaters to see movies, that it's been a rough handful of years for the industry. The box office never fully recovered from the pandemic shutdown five years ago, with some highs along the way but far more lows to complicate matters. Fortunately, things have looked up lately, with "A Minecraft Movie" delivering a global smash. And here's some more good news: This past weekend was, without a doubt, one of the most important and encouraging weekends at the box office in years.
The last weekend of April 2025 saw Ryan Coogler's "Sinners" make more than $45 million in its second weekend, a record-low drop for a wide release horror movie. It has now become an unexpectedly huge, original smash hit. What's special about it, looking beyond the number one movie on the charts,...

When you think of modern cinema, two names that come to mind almost immediately are Quentin Tarantino and Christopher Nolan. These two directors shook up the film industry with their distinct styles. Tarantino is known for his sharp dialogue, gritty characters, and scenes that make you squirm in the best way possible.
Nolan, on the other hand, is famous for his mind-bending concepts and visually stunning films. Despite their differences, one thing is clear—they both have a deep love for cinema. And it turns out that Tarantino has some serious respect for Nolan and his work.
Christopher Nolan
Over the years, Tarantino has spoken highly of Nolan, praising his distinctive style and creative vision. In return, Nolan has also expressed admiration for Tarantino’s work. So, what exactly has Tarantino said about Nolan? Let’s explore their shared love for each other’s films!

If you’ve been paying attention to anything Christopher Nolan says lately, you’ve likely noticed that he’s a bit nervous about the future of movies. And you know what? We can understand why. With lots of social media sites, YouTube, and all those endless streaming options, and the magical ‘pause’ button at home, going to a theater is starting to feel like an ancient ritual.
But here’s the surprise Nolan (and also many of us) didn’t anticipate: almost three decades ago, Hayao Miyazaki, the legendary genius behind My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away, had already confronted this very same phobia. And instead of sounding the alarm, Miyazaki had a pretty laid-back (and actually genius) approach to it.

Kiefer Sutherland can play the protagonist in the story, like Jack Bauer from 24 or Tom Kirkman from Designated Survivor. And he can easily slip into a cruel antagonist, like David from The Lost Boys or Freddie Lee Cobb from A Time to Kill. The variety of roles in Sutherland’s filmography, spread over more than four decades, speaks volumes about the actor.
However, there is one role for which we never appreciated Sutherland enough. In 1992, Sutherland took on the supporting role alongside the likes of Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, Demi Moore, and Kevin Bacon in A Few Good Men. He had a limited role in the film as Lt Jonathan Kendrick, but this villain performance of the actor was different from his others.

Homer's epic "The Odyssey," as any seventh grader could tell you, began its life as part of an ancient Greek oral tradition, shared over campfires on long, balmy Athenian nights. The epic wasn't written down until maybe the seventh century Bce, finally codifying a tale that, no doubt, had undergone several hundred changes during its life. "The Odyssey" takes place after the events of the Trojan War. Its hero, Odysseus, had become trapped on a Mediterranean island with a beautiful nymph named Calypso, living with her for eight years. However, Odysseus misses his wife Penelope and eventually sets out on a journey home. Penelope has, in the interim, had to fend off a lot of dumb, freeloading, muscle-bound suitors who assume Odysseus is dead and want to horn in on his home.

Science fiction is one of the most popular genres out there, but it takes a lot of effort and thought to get right. Sci-fi is not just about aliens and spaceships; it is about what science can do to address the current problems of the world, and whether it will solve those issues or worsen them. There is a reason speculative fiction like that always stands apart.
While ‘80s films like Blade Runner and Terminator wondered about the future of humanity, Hollywood seemed to pivot to a more blockbuster-y treatment for these films. Some of them asked profound questions, but also had fun with it. There is a reason the following list of films is extremely popular and influential, as their inspirations can be seen even today.

For many seasons now, there has been underlying tension between the protagonists of Rick and Morty. Although the two characters have had a kind of banter throughout the series, it seems to have taken on a resentful tone from Morty’s side. This was first set up as far back as the first season, with the very first Citadel episode.
With the trailer for the eighth season having finally been released, it seems possible that the show will go down this storyline again. However, the direction it could be taking with Evil Morty could be very different this time.
A Morty always needs a Rick…or do they?
With the release of the eighth season approaching, Rick and Morty have finally released the trailer, and it is quite insightful. Among many hints about what is to come, two specific scenes felt out of place considering the overall story of the show.

Christopher Nolan‘s space epic Interstellar wasn’t just a mind-bending journey through space and time—it was also a masterclass in budget efficiency. Made for approximately $165 million, the film delivered spectacular visuals, an all-star cast, and groundbreaking scientific concepts that had audiences questioning reality.
But would it surprise you to learn that several animated features actually cost more to produce? It’s true! While Nolan was crafting realistic wormholes and fifth-dimensional tesseracts, animation studios were quietly pouring even more cash into pixels and rendering farms.
The incredible artistry behind these animated blockbusters comes with a hefty price tag that would make even a black hole-exploring spacecraft seem economical by comparison. The technical challenges of bringing completely imagined worlds to life frame-by-frame sometimes demand resources that even interstellar travel can’t match.

Disney‘s 2010 adaptation of Rapunzel didn’t just feature incredible hair animation—it featured incredibly expensive hair animation.

After pulling the box office out of its slump with “A Minecraft Movie,” Warner Bros. is now taking a roll of the dice with the ambitious, original horror film “Sinners,” whose box office fortunes hinge in good part on how much the cultural legacy of “Black Panther” has permanently rubbed off on its writer-director, Ryan Coogler.
“Sinners” is Coogler’s first original film since his feature debut “Fruitvale Station,” after which he went on to launch the “Rocky” spinoff series “Creed” and then lead Marvel Studios to its first Best Picture nomination with “Black Panther” in 2018. His 2022 sequel, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” earned a less enthusiastic reception from critics and audiences but was still widely praised for how it paid tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman.

It’s time to look at the work of one of the greatest directors of our generation: Christopher Nolan. How big is Nolan these days? Interstellar, a movie which was never among the director’s top grossers, hit IMAX screens last week for its tenth anniversary, and screenings have been selling out constantly. The fact is – Nolan makes movies that belong on the big-screen, and he’s one of the few directors who’s arguably become his own franchise. For proof of that, one need only look at the fact that he’s planning a new movie, and the cast is jampacked with A-listers, because Everyone wants to work with Nolan.
A caveat – our Christopher Nolan movies ranked list is just one person’s opinion, and his work is divisive. Everyone has their favourites (and least favourites), so I’m hoping this ranking will open up some discussion in the comments below.

As casting announcements continue to roll in, speculation and excitement has only grown surrounding Christopher Nolan’s follow-up to his critical and box office hit “Oppenheimer,” which won him the Academy Award for best director.
“The Odyssey” is a classic piece of literature by Homer that is divided between 24 different books, preceded by “The Iliad.” It tells the 10-year journey story of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, as he travels home after the Trojan War. Along the way, he encounters multiple perils and discovers the death of his crewmates. Telemachus (Odysseus’ son), Penelope (Odysseus’ wife), Athena, Circe, Poseidon and Zeus are all major characters.
Historians and scholars date “The Odyssey” to sometime between 750-650 BC. The first printed Greek version became available in 1488.
In the centuries since, it has remained one of the most studied, adapted and parodied stories ever with adaptations including the 1911 silent film by Giuseppe de Liguoro, 1954’s...

Move over, Christopher Nolan. There’s a new timeline maestro in town, and they’ve traded time dilation for hidden blades. One dedicated Assassin’s Creed fan has done what many only dreamed of: compiled every single canon content from the franchise into one comprehensive timeline infographic.
And for those wondering, yes, it’s massive. As in, “scroll for your life” massive. The franchise, which started in 2007 with one game and a handful of cryptic Templar references, has since multiplied like Ezio’s family tree.

Love it or hate it, the series has become one of the most complex and content-rich universes in gaming history.
The hidden blade of Assassin’s Creed cuts real deep
While the casual gamer might just see each title as a standalone history-hop, the timeline shows how deeply interwoven the lore is. Characters and artifacts reappear across millennia,...

Jessica Chastain’s talents know no bounds. She was nominated thrice at the Academy Awards, winning the Best Actress for The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Right from her debut film Jolene, her performances have caught the eyes of critics and viewers. The year 2011 was her breakout year, starring in films like Take Shelter, The Tree of Life, and The Help.
The latter film earned her first Oscar nomination. Chastain found commercial success in sci-fi films like Interstellar and The Martian. In the 2010s, Chastain appeared in films that had mostly feminist themes. She was also nominated for two BAFTA awards, two Tony Awards, and an Emmy.

Hollywood is popular for its red carpet award shows like the Oscars, Golden Globes, and Emmys, which come along with teary-eyed acceptance speeches celebrating cinematic masterpieces. Directors, actors, and everyone who works together to make a cinema great are acknowledged at these events.
However, to keep things in check and keep them humble, the Golden Raspberry Awards are given. This accolade celebrates cinematic missteps, films that missed the mark, and actors who delivered performances far from acting. The Raspberry Awards are the Thanos snap of Hollywood to keep things in balance.

The Razzie Awards are not just for the B-listers or the low-budget movies; lately, this award ceremony has also given its awards to top celebrities and legends, proving nobody is safe in Hollywood.

This Wild Theory About Interstellar’s Ending Will Completely Blow Your Mind– Did Cooper Ever Return?

What is the wild theory about Interstellar’s ending? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
If you’ve ever fallen into the emotional and intellectual vortex that is Interstellar, you probably understand why it’s often hailed as a masterpiece of sci-fi cinema. It’s not just the visual grandeur or the sweeping Hans Zimmer score but it’s how the film unravels like a cosmic riddle wrapped in human heartbreak.
The Mission That Was Bigger Than Survival
In Interstellar, the story follows Joseph Cooper, a former pilot pulled back into a crumbling world where Earth is slowly becoming uninhabitable. He joins a crew of scientists on a mission that feels more myth than mission, which is finding a new home for humanity among the stars.
But make no mistake, this isn’t just another end-of-the-world space romp. Interstellar is a slow-burn symphony of science, love, and sacrifice. Nolan, the genius of cerebral chaos,...

The Dark Knight Rises Billion ( Photo Credit – Facebook )
It’s been over a decade since The Dark Knight Rises swooped into theaters with that gritty, brooding Nolan magic, and yet it’s still out here flexing like a legend. No multiverse. No sky portals. No talking raccoons or blue aliens riding flying dragons. Just Bane breaking backs, Batman rising (literally), and Gotham teetering on the edge of chaos.
Christopher Nolan really went all in with this finale, epic stakes, bombastic score, and that ending that had fans debating for years. And somehow, even in this age of superhero overload, it still holds a title most caped crusaders and cosmic space warriors haven’t touched.
Yup, The Dark Knight Rises may not be part of a sprawling cinematic universe, but it made its mark with pure storytelling grit, a stacked cast, and some unforgettable IMAX-worthy moments. So while the MCU continues...

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners delivers a pair of Michael B Jordans, a whole lot of music, and is the best studio genre movie of the year to date. Our review:
As a regular listener to the Kermode & Mayo film podcast, I’m well aware of its ‘six laugh test’ criteria. That is, a film comedy needs to generate half a dozen chuckles at the least to earn its keep.
I have a slight variant on it: the six characters test. I’m increasingly finding with big Hollywood films that I struggle to remember the names of more than two characters by the time I get to the end credits. It might be my failing faculties, but I also think a lot of blockbusters struggle to generate characters who you can remember the day after. James Cameron’s Aliens? I can reel off a bunch of names. James Cameron’s Avatar?...

Timothée Chalamet has become a very big deal over the last decade or so. With two Academy Award nominations and an ever-expanding list of excellent movies under his belt, the actor has flaunted his talent in a vast array of roles that range from playing Bob Dylan in "A Complete Unknown" (2024) to starring as Paul Atreides in Denis Villeneuve's "Dune" movies and following Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp in portraying eccentric chocolatier Willy Wonka in "Wonka" (2023). That's a lot, especially from a young actor who seems destined to turn in great roles for many decades to come.
Any one of Chalamet's best movies is a great way for a movie fan to spend a couple of hours glued to their seat. However, few prolific actors can maintain a perfect win record throughout their career, and even one as wildly successful as Chalamet has a few less than beloved films in his CV.

I know, I know, Tenet had us all doing mental gymnastics, rewinding scenes like we were CIA analysts with a film degree. But five years later, it hit me: Christopher Nolan didn’t just make a time-twisting masterpiece, he kind of extended Déjà Vu, that underrated Denzel Washington-Val Kilmer flick we all half-remember from 2006.
Seriously, watch ’em back-to-back. Time loops? Check. Sci-fi tech? Yup. Stoic lead unraveling causality while trying to save the girl? Triple check. Nolan went full Nolan with it. And to be for real, I feel like I cracked a cinematic conspiracy, and no one’s talking about it. So, let’s rewind.

Hans Zimmer — the name itself evokes feelings of cinematic grandeur, a quality that all his soundtracks embody. He’s a legendary composer who has crafted some of the most iconic film scores, and his music doesn’t just accompany the scenes; it elevates them.
Zimmer is a generational talent, and the skills he possesses are exceptionally rare because only a few can weave emotions into every note the way he does. From The Dark Knight to Man of Steel, he’s proven his mettle in every way possible.

The turnover rate for genre titles on Netflix is rapid. A ton of genre favorites have appeared on the streamer over the last few months. But, as quickly as they appeared, they’ve disappeared, giving us only a few months to check them off our watchlist. That’s why I wanted to highlight a few movies I’m not ready to see leave Netflix. I’m making it my business to stream these titles one last time because we never know when we’ll see them again in these streaming streets. These four films prove not all reboots suck, remind us that sometimes terror is where the heart is, and encourage us not to take ourselves too seriously.

The annual trade show hosted by Cinema United, CinemaCon is where the nation’s theater owners spend a week listening to sales pitches from Hollywood’s most important people: studio executives, Oscar-winning filmmakers, and Tom Cruise. Here are the standout moments, trailer, and highs and lows from CineamaCon 2025.

This year’s CinemaCon was marked by notable unease for the motion picture industry, with sagging box office totals sparking debate about theatrical windows and the future of several studio executives uncertain. Universal Pictures has very big hopes for Christopher Nolan's star-studded adaptation of Homer's Odyssey. A studio exec recently spoke about the upcoming film at CinemaCon 2025.
Per Variety, Jim Orr, Universal's distribution chief, spoke very highly of Nolan's Odyssey adaptation, calling it a "visionary, once-in-a-generation cinematic masterpiece that Homer himself would quite likely be proud of." While Orr appeared to be serious with his comments, the audience - made up largely of theater owners - laughed at the overstatement.
None could argue with Orr about The Odyssey's "staggering" all-star cast, which includes Matt Damon as Odysseus and Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron, whose roles have yet to be revealed. Filming for the blockbuster epic remains ongoing, and leaked images from the set continue to give hints and clues as to actors' roles.

Anne Hathaway is about to have another Les Misérables moment, and no, I don’t mean crying on stage and clutching an Oscar. I mean, she’s about to be thrown into the fiery pits of the internet’s collective rage. Hollywood loves a good comeback story, but sometimes it also loves to put people right back in the doghouse, and unfortunately for Hathaway, she’s about to find out the hard way.
You see, Hathaway has just signed on for Colleen Hoover’s upcoming Verity adaptation, and while that would normally be exciting news for book lovers, there’s just one problem, the internet is already mad about it.

Colleen Hoover is in hot water, Blake Lively is involved, and now Anne Hathaway has waltzed into the crossfire. There’s drama, controversy, and enough fan outrage to fuel another season of The White Lotus.

Interstellar Explained
Hoping that by now you would have seen Christopher Nolan’s space film, Interstellar, starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, and Michael Caine. I have tried to dissect and explain the ending of Interstellar in a lucid manner from my understanding. I will not get into nuances of science about the Wormholes and Black Holes so you can study them separately here. Christopher Nolan himself stated,” People are always accusing my films of having plot holes, and I’m very aware of the plot holes in my films and very aware of when people spot them, but they generally don’t. But what were some science issues people had with the film? That was Kip’s domain.” I also want to add that this is a science Fiction movie, not a documentary on space that could have an accuracy of a cent percentage.

Amazon MGM Studios started its inaugural CinemaCon presentation with a bang: the first trailer for Project Hail Mary, a new science-fiction feature from directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller with Ryan Gosling in the lead role.
The movie is based on the 2021 novel by Andy Weir (The Martian) with a script from Drew Goddard. As revealed in the trailer — and likely familiar to anyone who has read Weir’s best-selling book — Gosling stars as Ryland Grace, a schoolteacher-turned-astronaut sent on a longshot mission to save the planet as the sun begins to die. Ryland, the lone survivor of the trip, eventually comes face-to-face with an alien who similarly wants to save the universe.

The ten-year anniversary celebrations for director Christopher Nolan's epic science-fiction film Interstellar are showing no signs of abating. Not too long after the movie was re-released in theaters worldwide, it entered a rather exclusive list on the platform Letterboxd, where users can log, review, and rate films. Interstellar is now among only three titles on the platform with over five million views. Released in 2014, the film featured Matthew McConaughey as a NASA astronaut who goes on a mission to find a habitable new planet for a severely endangered humankind.
On Monday, Letterboxd announced that Interstellar had become the latest film to achieve over 5 million views, joining Greta Gerwig's Barbie and David Fincher's Fight Club. You read that right, dear viewer. Netflix is adding no less than 38 movies and shows to their rotation this week. And if you think I'm giving a detailed synopsis of every new arrival, well... in the immortal words of Ms. Kimberly Wilkins, "Ain't nobody got time for that."
Holy Hannah. After last week, I'm used to a lighter workload. Granted, most of these properties aren't new, just new to Netflix. There are certainly a lot of classic films in the group, so I'll hit the highlights. Or at least a dozen of them. Maybe even a baker's dozen, lucky you.
Netflix closes out March with three original titles, then bombards us with 27 features on April Fool's Day. Unless they're doing some weird meta-promotion, and not releasing anything on April 1st. Speaking of April Fool's - I've included one fake title in the list. Hopefully, you'll be able to discover it without too much trouble.

Every month, Netflix has to purge some of its catalog and make room for new arrivals. Still, the first week of April 2025 is rough. If you wanted to catch many of the films below, you have two days left.
There is no way to binge-watch everything that is leaving. That is true even if you line up several TVs and your computer(s) next to each other and play different things at once. Don't do that because that would be weird (or would it?).
Several franchises are leaving on day one of the month. The excellent Rush Hour films and early Karate Kid movies are gone, as are several animated movies that are worth watching. Here is everything that is leaving in the first week of the month, though.
The first week of April 2025 will find 52 movies and seven series leaving NetflixApril 1An Affair to Remember (1957)Baby Driver (2017)Boyz n the Hood...
