Speed Racer: I'll try to win the next race Trixie, but right now I've got something more important to do! Even though I couldn't help Dr. Bone when he was alive, maybe I can still help him!
- Crazy creditsSome key character villians (and bad puns ) in this episode are named after body parts:
Cleopatra aka "Calcia" "Digger O. Bone" and Splint Femur are both archeologists.

This is another of my favorite episodes of the show. I really like this arc because this is archaeological adventure, which is a subgenre in action I always love, you can say this arc slightly predates the "Indiana Jones", "Tomb Raider" franchises as well as films like "Firewalker" and many more throughout the years.
It's true the plotline is a bit absurd which sounds almost like it could have been a plotline for the "Batman 66" villain King Tut as we hear the daughter of a deceased archaeologist received some brain damage which has made her mistakenly think she's Cleopatra and the scummy assistant (whom has the archetypal bad guy look with the eye patch) is using her to find all the treasure.
I know absurd but hey it's the pulps you just must roll with it. But what makes this arc stand out it that it's filled with constant action that doesn't let up, you really can't afford to make a pit stop.
There is the business with some of the thugs at the beginning Speed deals with like one guy armed with one big power drill, whenever there is power tool involved in a fight it always makes me nervous who wouldn't be afraid of them. Then there is this giant king cobra which I'll admit really gave me the willies from its design not just in size but those eyes which just signify evil. In that struggle against the snake there was a double layer of suspense as we see Speed is in its coils and it's just trying to swallow him whole or sink its nasty venomous fangs into Speed; but we also see Trixie with the gun and are hoping to God her she doesn't miss.
Also, we have the gladiatorial fight which was cool Speed engaged in a sword and shield battle. There is also a double layered suspense as we see unfortunately his opponent is a cheater as he's armed with a sword which blades extends with just a button, how a sword can mechanically do that is anyone's guess. But also there are the lions at the bottom, God forbid Speed fell off the edge and became today's special for the lions.
Of course, it comes down to the race where Speed must retrieve an artifact by going from point A to B and B to A, unfortunately as we see they are miles apart which would eat up lots of time. This is made even more suspenseful as we see Trixie's life (as usual) is in peril and if he doesn't make it in time, it's game over for both.
This of course is where we get into Mach 5 action again, this of course isn't a smooth race as the scummy assistant throws obstacles in his way to slow him down or stop him on his tracks permanently. Will Speed make it in the nick of time, you just must wait and see.
Rating: 4 stars.
