- P.J. is so worried about being grounded for bad school grades that he tries to enjoy himself like he will never be able to do it again.
- PJ is up late night frantically studying for his math final, which he fears he'll flunk. His confidence is eroded even further when his dad threatens to ground him forever if he flunks his test. Desperate, he calls Max to help him study. Max offers to either help PJ cheat on the test or make him a math genius for life. PJ chooses "brains over con," and Max gets to work.
Max rigs up a contraption that rewards PJ with a candy bar if he gets an answer right, but lobs a raw egg in his face if he gets it wrong. With Max's help, PJ memorizes his math book forty-seven times, but freaks out the next morning when his dad first offers him an egg, then suggests a candy bar for breakfast.
At school, Max tells PJ he'll ace the test, no problem. After the test, however, PJ says all he remembers from the test is "flying eggs and stuff." He panics when he thinks he may have flunked his test, as that would get him grounded for life. PJ says his dad will get his report card in the next day's 3:30pm mail. Max says that this gives PJ 23 hours and 14 minutes to do everything he ever wanted in his entire life.
Early the next morning, PJ makes a list of what he wants to do before he gets grounded for life, but realizes he can't do any of it because they have school. Max suggests that PJ pretend to be sick, but PJ says his dad won't keep him home unless he's a walking corpse. In response, Max grabs a medical book, combines symptoms for two different diseases (Outer Mongolian Worry Warts and Peruvian Pus-Face), and gussies PJ up to appear to have them both. The result works too well, however, as Pete calls an ambulance to send his son to the hospital, much to Max's dismay.
Max follows PJ to the hospital and gets him out, while Dr. Howard, the attending emergency room physician, discovers that PJ was faking his symptoms. Dr. Howard tries to tell Pete, even handing him PJ's list, which he dropped when Max grabbed him. When Pete reads the list, he misunderstands its title, "Stuff I Want to Do on My Last Day," thinking that PJ is now dying. Pete runs after the kids before Dr. Howard can fully explain what happened.
PJ realizes he dropped his list, but Max says he remembers it by heart: 200 Gorilla burgers, watch all twelve Mutilator movies, ride down Hairpin Hill in a shopping cart, kiss Cynthia Snodfrue, and go on the three worst rides in Terrorland. They execute each of the items on PJ's list, with Pete in pursuit. Pete finally catches up to the kids at Terrorland, but Max persuades him to let PJ finish the items on his list.
The kids return home before PJ's report card arrives. Dr. Howard calls Pete to let him know that PJ was faking his illness. Furious that PJ cut school over a test, Pete grounds his son for life.
When Peg gets home, she tells Pete that PJ got an A in math. Elated at PJ's grade, Pete grabs his stunned son and takes him out celebrating, promising even more rewards when he passes his science test next week.
