"Maybe Next Year" is a live action short film from 2005, so it had its 10th anniversary last year. This is an American production and the writer and director is Jeremy Dick. This film, even at under 2 minutes, is the perfect example that duration is not crucial. If you have a good idea and manage to execute it convincingly, then this can turn into a really effective little movie like this one here. I will not give anything away about the plot, but I liked how this film started on such a high note with a pleasant Christmas dinner on the table and then the whole story and atmosphere goes south step by step. This film makes an emotional impact and teaches a lesson as well, even if it was a pretty drastic one with the ending. These words before the closing credits may not have been necessary and I really thought the information about Klown Films early on hurt the movie a lot in terms of atmosphere, but I still think this was a very good outcome. Highly recommended, especially during the holidays.
