"Cyrano Andy" first aired on March 6, 1961. The Lucille Ball edition TV Guide for sale in Walker's Drugstore, seen on the top shelf of the magazine rack as Barney enters the drug store, was published for the week of October 9, 1954. Five other TV Guides featuring Lucille Ball on the cover were published before this episode aired (Dec. 10, 1955, Jan. 12, 1957, Nov. 2, 1957, July 12, 1958 and July 16, 1960), but none featured Lucy in a pose where she appears to be watching people entering the store and monitoring their activities. The Andy Griffith Show was filmed at Desi Arnaz and Lucy's studio, Desilu, so the symbolism of Lucy watching over things is decidedly spot on.
The title is based on Hercule-Savinien Cyrano de Bergerac, a French dramatist and duelist who is now best remembered for an overly large nose described in the play Edmond Rostand, based on his life.
Aunt Bee does not appear in this episode.
