- Ned Cook: I don't know who they are, or where they came from. But come they do, and help they bring.
- Ned Cook: We're not hurt, but I can hear water seeping in from below.
- Brains: Of course! That's the answer!
- Jeff Tracy: The answer to what, Brains?
- Brains: Well, I've been trying to figure out why that area should suddenly collapse. Underground rivers!
- Scott Tracy: Underground rivers?
- Tin-Tin: Yes, Brains could be right!
- [on the stage of "The Ned Cook Show", not long after Ned's rescue]
- Announcer: [to the audience] Good evening! Welcome once again to "The Ned Cook Show"! As you know, Ned has not missed a performance in the last 167 weeks. A few days ago, Ned was involved with his cameraman in a disaster from which there seemed no escape. But, true to unique record, Ned is here tonight! Ladies and gentlemen - Ned Cook!
- [Audience cheers as Ned Cook enters the stage in a wheelchair]
- Ned Cook: Thank you. Thank you, friends. As you see, I made the show, and what a show we have for you tonight. But first, I have one very important thing to say. My cameraman and I are only alive today because of the unselfish action of an organisation that is dedicated to its chosen task of rescuing people who normally would certainly die. I refer to International Rescue. I am going to take this opportunity to thank the people behind that great organisation. No-one knows who they are or where they come from, but come they do and help they bring. I only hope that somehow my words will reach those gallant people.
- [Gordon, Alan, Tin-Tin, Virgil, Scott, Brains, Grandma and Jeff are sitting in the back row of the auditorium proudly watching on]
- Ned Cook: International Rescue, on behalf of Joe and myself, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
- Jeff Tracy: Scott, take off for New York.
- Scott Tracy: Yes, sir.
- Jeff Tracy: Gordon, launch Thunderbird 4 using emergency procedure and then proceed to the position where the fleet exercises are going on. I'll contact Washington and arrange for them to pick you up and rush you to New York.
- Gordon Tracy: Yes, sir!
- Virgil Tracy: Good luck, Gordon.
- [to Jeff]
- Virgil Tracy: What can I do, Father?
- Jeff Tracy: [bearing in mind that Virgil is badly injured] Go back to bed.
- [Thunderbird 1 pulls up alongside Ned Cook's truck]
- Scott Tracy: I told you guys, no pictures.
- Ned Cook: Listen, buster. You've done a great job here today. Now let me do mine.
- Scott Tracy: [insistently] I said, no pictures! Please destroy them.
- Ned Cook: If you think I'd do that, you're crazy.
- [Thunderbird 2, damaged by the Sentinel, is nose-diving towards the ocean; Virgil has been knocked out]
- Scott Tracy: Thunderbird 2 from Thunderbird 1. Come in, Virgil. Virgil, are you okay?
- [Virgil does not respond]
- Scott Tracy: [desperately] Virgil, pull her up! Can you hear me? Come in, Thunderbird 2. Virgil! You're crashing! Pull her up!
- [Virgil struggles to move]
- Scott Tracy: Virgil, get a grip on yourself. You've gotta pull out of that dive.
- [Virgil slowly comes to and barely manages to level Thunderbird 2 above the ocean]
- [after the motors shut down following initial ground movement]
- Ned Cook: It looks as if it's going to be all right, folks. The ground subsidence has stopped, but I don't think we'll see the Empire State move again today.
- [Brief silence]
- Ned Cook: [after nodding to someone off-camera] We have just been ordered off this site by the police. There is, I understand, a very real danger that the entire building could collapse at any moment. We will be on the air again as soon as we have...
- [the ground gives way underneath Ned and Joe]
- Ned Cook: [falling] OH!
- [the ground around the Empire State Building site is starting to crumble, while Ned Cook is giving an on-the-spot description of the action]
- Ned Cook: This is a mighty dangerous situation. The ground around the building is crumbling. We are in direct line of fire. But in the tradition of NTBS, we will stay in the danger zone to bring you up-to-the-minute pictures of this fantastic spectacle.
- [the Tracy family meanwhile are watching the broadcast on television]
- Jeff Tracy: Crazy fool; why doesn't he get the heck out of it?
- Scott Tracy: Well, like you said, Dad, he would do *anything* for a story.
