Comedy team The Chaser is returning to the ABC, with a new show set to go into production this week. Dubbed The Hamster Wheel, the eight-part series will examine the contemporary media landscape. "I just can't wait to get my hands on the ABC credit card again," said Executive Producer Julian Morrow in a statement. "When it comes to dodgy uses of other people's money, Craig Thomson's got nothing on The Chaser team." The Chaser were last seen on ABC in 2009, when their series The Chaser's War on Everything was cut short following their controversial 'Make-a-realistic-wish' sketch. They were set to return earlier this year to provide commentary on the royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton, but were forced to cancel...

An Australian TV show that takes a satirical look at the royal wedding has been banned. The programme, which was to be hosted by the same controversial comedy group that made The Chaser's War On Everything, was axed after the BBC threatened to ban The ABC from accessing any footage of Prince William and Kate Middleton's nuptials. The ABC's director of television Kim Dalton told the Sydney Morning Herald: "'In Australia we're not used to these sorts of conditions being placed on the media and you can't help but observe these restrictions are being placed on the media on behalf of a future head of state of Australia." A BBC spokesperson said: ''It has always been made clear by the BBC that use of its basic live news feed and BBC One programming for comedy, satirical or similar entertainment (more)...

The team behind The Chaser's War On Everything have announced that they will host alternative coverage of the Royal Wedding on ABC2. The Australian comedians, who have caused controversy in the past with their "offensive" stunts, said that they want to provide a "silly" and "satirical" version of events for members of the public who don't want to watch more mainstream coverage of the wedding. Programme controller Stuart Menzies joked to The Age that the Chaser boys and the Royal Family are very compatible, saying: "They're both tired, out-of-touch institutions that are a drain on the public (more)...

Even though the mystery of The Stig has been revealed both in the TV world and the real world, Top Gear's tame racing driver still has an aura of mystery and notoriety about him. So why not exploit it for personal gain and/or goods and services?
Willmore2000, one of our many bleary-eyed TV lovers, told us to check out The Stig's image being exploited for personal gain by The Chaser's War on Everything, a great Australian satirical prank show that used to get a good deal of airtime on G4 until they realized that original programming that doesn't involve forcing people to vomit on camera does not belong on their network.
