- Kitty decides it's time Red goes deer-hunting again, long after his unmentionable accident. Red needs some fresh air and to get out of his lousy mood. Many years ago, Red's friend had shot a deer and bent down to kiss it. Only the deer wasn't dead and kicked the friend in the neck, who died on the spot Red takes all the boys along. Hyde doesn't have a gun, since his mom took it when she left. So, he has to share. Eric is reluctant to go, because Red does not like him. Kitty makes Eric go hunting with his father. Bob has a cabin in the woods, so when Red asks him for it, Bob decides to tag along.
The females go feminine at home, Donna refuses Kitty's cooking suggestions like baking or boiling. So, they end up talking about the boys. Midge says it's a stand-off as Bob won't shave his back and she won't shave her legs. Eric doesn't have a hairy back and cannot even grow a mustache. Midge wants to know if Donna and Eric have had sex, which grosses Donna out. They play poker, which Laurie cheats at so Kitty can win. Midge figures out that Laurie is helping Kitty win and storms out. Kitty is touched that Laurie would cheat to help her win. Laurie takes a cut of the winnings.
Nobody trusts self-declared Nimrod Kelso to actually touch a gun. Kelso protests that he has the right to bear arms as per the constitution. Fez says that not everything in the constitution makes sense, earning a rebuke from Red and Bob, who are fiercely protective of the US Constitution. Because of Kelso not being allowed to keep a gun, he misses a kill when a deer walks right by the cabin as Kelso couldn't get to his gun in time. Fez's ancestral whistle and stick technique is ridiculed, but he serves two delicious pheasants- no, that's crow, so that means that Fez made them eat somebody's soul, and brought bad luck upon the entire group.
Next day, a long, lonely, quiet stake-out in a tree gets father and son Forman to open up about their uneasy rapport. A buck is within reach and Red spots it through his binoculars. Red insists that Eric should take the shot. Eric misses the shot, and the deer runs away. Red blames Eric for being always nervous, and Eric retorts that's because Red has been yelling at him for 17 years.
Red has a heart-to-heart talk over his angry behavior with Eric. Eric admits that he didn't want to kill the deer and hence missed on purpose. He is actually a very good shot. Red asks Eric to be honest and frank with him, and say whatever is on his mind. He tells Red that Red is angry as life was unfair to him and he yells at Eric as he believes, just maybe Eric won't let life push him around too much. Red has new respect for Eric but shoots the next deer that comes by.
