Hugh (Sean Scanlan) is Mary's cousin. He lives a middle class life in suburban Sidcup. A member of the golf club, the Masonic lodge and a respected member of the community along with his snobbish wife Phoebe.
When Hugh learns that Rab C Nesbitt is going to arrive to Sidcup to stay with them. He is in fact fleeing the Glasgow police for non payment of fines.
Hugh admits to Phoebe that he is in fact from the scummier side of Govan. Where he was known as Shug.
Only as soon as Rab arrives. Mary phones him that their lovelorn son Gash has come to London as well. Come to meet up with his girlfriend.
Back in Glasgow, Jamesie fancies his chances with Mary. In case she is feeling lonely. Only he is not the only man in the locality to have the same idea.
It's not long before Rab's coarseness rubs off on Shug.
This is Rab going down south. This includes going to London and seeing the plight of the homeless himself. I did like Rab berating the man who could not understand him. So Rab asks him if he could understand the people in 'Neighbours' which is made halfway across the globe.
