This was the first episode shown for the season, but the fifth one taped at Metromedia Square in Hollywood. The first four taped were done out of sequence, as Sally Struthers was "on strike" to try and get a raise, believing the pregnancy storyline would be good leverage. Carroll O'Connor supported her.
All four cast members have been moved "above the title" in the opening. That is, all of their names now appear before the series' title.
This episode introduces an updated main title, a new (though very similar) version of Archie and Edith singing "Those Were the Days" that would be used through season eight. Edith no longer wears her glasses, and on "Everybody pulls his weight" she emphasizes the "t" in "weight" instead of holding the note, then Archie enunciates the name "LaSalle" in "Gee, our old LaSalle ran great" (LaSalle was an American luxury car brand from the 1930s). In season nine, without Mike and Gloria, the opening would be revamped again, with Archie wearing a sweater and uttering "welfare state" in his mocking tone.
