It’s two-and-done for a pair of History dramas. The cable network has cancelled Project Blue Book and Knightfall after two seasons a piece, Deadline reports.
Project Blue Book, which hailed from executive producer Robert Zemeckis, was based on the true investigations into UFOs and related phenomena conducted by the United States Air Force in the 1950s and ’60s. Game of Thrones alum Aidan Gillen (aka Littlefinger) played astrophysicist and UFO skeptic J. Allen Hynek, who was recruited by the Air Force to spearhead its clandestine operation. Being a knight isn't just about fighting the bad guys.
Parsifal (Bobby Schofield) committed to becoming part of the Knights Templar after experiencing personal tragedy in the Knightfall premiere, but as he soon finds out, there's a lot more to being a knight than meets the eye.
Only Et has an exclusive clip of Wednesday's episode of the History drama, in which Parsifal finally gets a taste of Templar life -- though it's not exactly what he's expecting.
"I don't need to learn how to hand out bread or clean sh*t! I want to learn how to swing a sword!" Parsifal complains, after being tasked with feeding those outside of the palace walls.
"You want to be a knight? Here's your first lesson: shut up and follow orders," Gawain (Pádraic Delaney) sternly instructs Parsifal, who quickly gets the excitement he's been waiting for.
See how it all plays out in the video above.

Whether fact, fantasy or fiction, the elusive Holy Grail has always been the focus of many a dramatic tale on TV and film. Now History’s latest dramatic ten-episode effort, Knightfall, is at the forefront of this purported “cup of Christ” legendary saga. Knightfall is profoundly opulent, textural in look and layered with assiduous realism despite the fantastical elements of the storyline. The series follows the mysterious and wealthy Knights Templar, a secretive military order of the Middle Ages consigned to find and to protect Christianity’s most prized relic. The story unfolds in the Holy Land in 1291 during the Siege...read more...

The Knightfall crew moved heaven and earth to bring the show to screen... and so did its star, Tom Cullen.
The show was picked up for 10 episodes straight-to-series in January 2016, signifying History's confidence in the Jeremy Renner-executive produced project, despite a massive set fire halfway through filming, and a Welsh actor who auditioned for the role of a warrior monk looking "like a mix between a gerbil and a Christmas pudding."
"Honestly, I looked like a turkey!" Cullen boldly confesses to Et after a night out promoting the show in Los Angeles. "I had just come out of Christmas, and I just looked like Christmas, do you know what I mean? I was the human equivalent of Christmas, so I had to do a lot of work in order to make myself look like a knight."
The actor was in the gym five hours a day for three months "to make myself look less [like a] turkey" before filming...

Rubbing shoulders with a very small number of IP (see: Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto), Ubisoft’s expansive Assassin’s Creed series now belongs in the pantheon of video game franchises big enough to transcend into the mainstream – even if its live-action adaptation failed to make much of a dent at the international box office late last year.
A decade has passed since AC1 launched onto PS3 and Xbox 360, and in those intervening years, Ubisoft’s marquee series has produced tie-in books, comics, graphic novels, feature films, and an entire encyclopedia dedicated to the Creed and its sworn enemy, the Knights Templar.
That eternal battle between good and evil has raged for generations, and in 2017, Ubisoft will relocate the Assassin’s Creed franchise to ancient Egypt for Origins. But there’s another instalment of the AC series looming on the horizon, and it appears to have found a home at Netflix.

With a property like The Mummy, you could take it in a couple of different directions. You have the horror route: Universal and Hammer Studios both went this route in the 1930s and 50s, proving that the schlocky idea of a looming curse can be presented in a sophisticated and chilling manner. You have the adventure route: The 1999 Mummy remake gave us a fun, Indiana Jones character in a pulpy page-turning excursion. As Universal begins its journey to create their own cinematic universe like Marvel – currently titled Dark Universe – an attempt is made to go in both directions at that same time, without successfully capturing either experience very well.

It’s telling that the first feature-length film to come out of Italy was Dante’s Inferno (1911). Because of course, what else would it be? A silent, 68-minute adaptation of the classic poem that, quite memorably, features Satan munching on the souls of the damned. I suppose you could consider this film a tone-setter for the sort of genre films that would come out in Italy over the next hundred-plus years. The film is violent, demonic, and packed with full-frontal nudity. But most importantly, it was all about Hell.
Now, I know it should go without saying, but Italy is pretty big on that whole Catholicism deal. According to a survey conducted in 2005–2006, 87.8% of Italian citizens considered themselves to be Catholic. It should be no surprise, then, that while religious horror is prevalent in the United States, nobody can quite deliver a satanic panic like the Italians. And in the...

By showing signs of intelligent life in a universe of diseased, digital drivel, Assassin's Creed stands above the herd of movies based on video games by default. Given the low-bar status of the genre, that's not saying much – remember Warcraft, when the gifted filmmaker Duncan Jones tried and disastrously failed to instill soul into a lifeless, role-playing franchise? That should have been a lesson to director Justin Kurzel and his producer/lead actor Michael Fassbender ... and yet these defiant rebels think they can change things. They eventually hit a brick wall,...

History, which is foundational to the captivatingly bonkers story of Justin Kurzel’s “Assassin’s Creed,” tells us that this should be a very bad movie. For one thing, this dense, dour, and oft-delayed holiday spectacle is based on a popular series of video games — a grim omen in a year that brought us the likes of “Warcraft” and “Ratchet & Clank.” For another, Kurzel’s moody adaptation is told on a massive scale, budgeted to compete with other franchise monstrosities like “Rogue One” and “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” — the familiar trouble with making a film like this is that it’s too expensive to afford any risks.
But “Assassin’s Creed,” in which Michael Fassbender’s blank protagonist quite literally repeats history, refuses to be defined by the past. On the contrary, this bizarre, borderline incoherent action movie becomes the most interesting blockbuster of 2016 because of how...

It looks like this is going to be a day of trailers! Following the release of new looks at Spider-Man: Homecoming and War for the Planet of the Apes, Fox has released a final preview for Assassin's Creed. This one ditches the not to great pop songs to focus on the story, with the big reveal being that the Templars are still on the hunt for the Apple of Eden, something fans of the game will be familiar with. An original story rather than a direct take on one of the games, the movie picks up with Callum Lynch in the present after he discovers he’s a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day.

With Assassin's Creed right around the corner, yet another new clip has been released from the movie. This one focuses on a carriage chase, and if this is an indication of the sort of action we can expect, then this release really does stand a good chance of being the first truly great video game adaptation. Set in the same world as the game, but just how closely tied to them it will be remains to be seen.

Video game fans were left disappointed a little earlier this year by Warcraft, the movie many hoped would turn around the genre’s fortunes after flops like Doom and Agent 47.
Unfortunately, that received a tepid response both critically and financially, so it’s now up to Assassin’s Creed to be the first truly great video game adaptation. Should it succeed, don’t be surprised to see Ubisoft finally move forward with the likes of Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six.
We’ll have to wait and see what happens on that front, but today, they’ve released two brand new official images depicting the two very different characters Michael Fassbender will be playing

For years, it seemed the History Channel was lost in the weeds. Despite changing their name to History, their shows were more “mindless reality TV binge watch” and less “did I just accidentally learn something?” An intellectual wasteland, Ancient Aliens was the closest you could find to an edutainment series on the channel from 2010 to 2013. Then along came Vikings, and everything changed. Vikings premiered to 6 million viewers — and while not 100% historically accurate, it was head and shoulders above History’S other offerings at the time. The success opened the door to programming like the limited-series Barbarians Rising and the recent remake of Roots. But until now, Vikings has been the lone History historical series, adrift in a sea of Mountain Men and Swamp People. This solitude ends when Knightfall joins the line-up. A new series from Jeremy Renner’s (yes, Hawkeye) and Don Handfield’s production company The Combine and Midnight Radio, Knightfall will follow the Vikings model of blending history and drama, only this time during the fall of the Knights Templar. One of the most mysterious and powerful orders of the Middle Ages, the Knights Templar were a military group entrusted with the keeping of the Holy Grail and — according to legend — knew secrets about the Church that could bring it to its knees. But they were also an order of men, with all the messy politicking and “mean-girling” that entails. Knightfall promises to go deep into the inner circle of the Knights Templar’s clandestine world. Not just the battles in the Holy Land, but the battles on the home front. Not everyone loved the Templars, leading to clashes with both the King of France and Pope Boniface VIII. The latter of which would end in the disbanding the order on Friday the 13th, which is why the date is considered unlucky even now. Oh, look! The show hasn’t even started, and you’re already learning something. Production for Knightfall begins this summer in Croatia and the Czech Republic. Tom Cullen (Downton Abbey) was previously announced to star as Landry, a former warrior and current leader of the Knights Templar. But now the cast is fully in place and ready to return to the 12th century. From the press release: [Starring] Bobby Schofield (Black Sea, Our World War) as Parsifal, a young man of ordinary birth who will join the Knights Templar seeking revenge, but ultimately finds a higher purpose; Sabrina Bartlett (DaVinci’s Demons, Poldark) as Princess Isabella, Queen Joan and King Philip's daughter, her upcoming wedding stands to forge a powerful political alliance for France; Julian Ovenden (Downton Abbey, Person of Interest, The Colony) as De Nogaret, King Philip’s Machiavellian lawyer and right hand man; Sarah-Sofie Boussnina (The Bridge, The Absent One) as Adelina, as a child she was rescued in the Holy Land by the Templar Knights, but now in her early 20s, she lives on the streets of Paris as a thief; Padraic Delaney (The Wind That Shakes the Barley, The Tudors) as Gawain, once the greatest swordsman of the Templar Order whose role with them is at a crossroads; Simon Merrells (Spartacus, Dominion ) as Tancrede, a veteran sergeant fanatically devoted to the Templar Knight cause and Olivia Ross (War and Peace, Blowing Louder than the Wind , Father of My Children) as Queen Joan of Navarre, Queen of France and Queen Regnant of Navarre, a devoted mother, warrior, and a formidable diplomat and strategist. We’re entering a new era. One in which History retakes the torch. It was up to Comedy Central, of all places, to keep the learning fires alive with Drunk History and Another Period. But now the original is back, and hopefully better than ever.

Come December, Michael Fassbender will be slipping into two very distinct roles for Ubisoft and New Regency’s live-action Assassin’s Creed movie.
The first of which is Callum Lynch, a normal civilian from the near-future who finds himself in the clutches of the nefarious Abstergo Industries, undergoing a series of tests which, in turn, open up the second half of his dual role, Aguilar. As you’ve no doubt guessed, it’s the latter character that stands as Lynch’s deadly ancestor, and Assassin’s Creed will thrust Fassbender – and, by effect, moviegoers – back in time to the Spanish Inquisition.
Such a mind-bending journey oozes with cinematic potential, and early reports have teased the film’s sizeable production values – not to mention Ubisoft’s confidence of spawning a bona fide film franchise. And now, a new image has surfaced offering up our best look at Fassbender’s period garb to date.

On the heels of a trailer for the upcoming Assassin's Creed movie, 20th Century Fox has unveiled a new official poster for the film featuring Michael Fassbender striking an iconic pose as the character Callum Lynch.
Fassbender is teaming up with Justin Kurzel (Macbeth) again to bring one of the most popular game series to the big screen. Also joining the line-up are Jeremy Irons (The Man in The Iron Mask, Batman v Superman), Marion Cotillard (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises), and Michael K. Williams (12 Years a Slave, The Wire).
While based on the game series, the director has announced some surprising aspects of the film: There will be no characters from the previous games, it will be its own installment with little nods to past installments; and roughly only 35% of the movie will take place in the past. The latter is an astonishing reversal of the tried and true Assassin’s Creed formula,...

Aside from the questionable choice of music – played against Kanye West’s “I Am A God” – the initial reception to last week’s first trailer for Assassin’s Creed has been overly positive, and there’s no question that Justin Kurzel and the team at New Regency are going all-in on their high-profile rendition of Ubisoft’s historical tentpole.
Pegged to arrive in December, it’s launching in the same year as Warcraft: The Beginning and Sony’s Angry Birds movie, but Ubisoft is quietly confident that Assassin’s Creed will be the one to break the longstanding streak of middling video game movies.
Per Twitter, Ubisoft’s Azaizi Aymar rubbished claims that movies based on games are doomed to fail.
That’s a view echoed right across the board, too, with mooted reports of a direct sequel already beginning to surface months before Justin Kurzel’s live-action movie makes its debut.

Justin Kurzel’s high-profile rendition of Assassin’s Creed will align closely with Ubisoft’s video game franchise by hopping between the past and the modern day, but according to a studio executive, the vast majority of the movie will actually take place in the present.
Estimating the amount of screentime that the Michael Fassbender-led actioner will afford to the Spanish Inquisition, executive producer Pat Crowley told IGN that roughly “35 percent” of Assassin’s Creed features 15th century Spain, with the remainder focusing on Callum Lynch’s (Fassbender) struggles with Abstergo Industries in the 21st century.
Per IGN:
“There are certain things that we absolutely want to respect in the game,” he said. “But we also want to bring new elements to the game […] This isn’t a video game that we’re making. We’re trying to make a cinematic experience, so there are new things that we have to introduce.

Nearly a decade after the first Assassin’s Creed game broke new ground in the action-adventure stealth genre. Players followed Desmond Miles as he unlocked the secrets of his ancestors’ past, along with hints to a bigger reveal about humanity as a whole. With each new entry, another layer of lore was added on, culminating with Assassin’s Creed III.* Now Michael Fassbender is stepping into the secret world of Abstergo Industries in the first trailer for the Assassin’s Creed film. *While the Assassin’s Creed series has continued, Desmond’s tale mostly ends in Aciii. Yep, that definitely hits the right tone for an Assassin’s Creed entry! They even managed to add in a female assassin, something even Ubisoft didn’t do until the spin-off game Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation introduced Aveline as a playable character in 2012. Building off the momentum from this week’s new images, Ubisoft and New Regency have premiered the official first trailer for Assassin’s Creed, thrusting Michael Fassbender into the dual role of Callum Lynch/Aguilar.
Reuniting with his Macbeth director Justin Kurzel, who shot to fame thanks to the excellent Snowtown five years ago, Fassbender is said to be heavily involved in the live-action feature, acting as both producer and series star. Such commitment has spawned talk of a direct sequel entering development. However, one would assume the future of Ubisoft’s budding franchise hinges on the December release.
