Inside joke: Earl has to open the mouth of his Georgie costume to see who's in front of him. In real life the puppeteer inside the Earl costume could only see through Earl's mouth to know where he was walking. This was why Earl was constantly huffing and sighing during the show when he was exasperated over something.
Georgie is a parody of Barney, of Barney and Friends (1992). Barney is owned by a company called Henson International Television, or HiT. Jim Henson, who was involved in this show, was a co-founder of HiT.
The "fake" name Roy gives to Georgie for the autograph is Bob Young, the series' co-creator.
The second parody of Barney used in the series, the first was a red dinosaur named Blarney.
