- Ray gets Frank a fish tank for his 65th birthday.
- It's Frank's 65th birthday. For the last number of years, the family didn't give presents on their birthday, but because it was his 65th, Robert and Marie got him something and Ray didn't. Robert laughs when he finds out Ray didn't buy his father anything. Marie got him a sweater and Robert got him the Remote Boat. Ray, on the other hand, lies and says he special ordered something but it hasn't arrived yet. While in bed that night, Ray remembers that his father always liked the large fish tank at Wo-Hop's Chinese Takeout. So, he decides to get a large fish tank with some tropical "specially ordered" fish. With the tank finally set up in Frank and Marie's living room, Frank just stares at the tank all day instead of the TV. Ray is then worried because he knows he has to top himself next year and get an even better gift. Then when one of the fish dies, Frank becomes upset. Debra suggests that, since Frank is getting older, the dead fish could be somewhat symbolic of his own mortality. So Ray confronts his father about it. As it turns out, Frank was only upset because he found out how much money Ray had spent on it: a $40 fish in a $600 aquarium. So finally, they get rid of the tank and donate it to Wo-Hop's restaurant.
- It's Frank's 65th birthday. Ray decides to get Frank a funny greeting card. He gets his friend to pick one with him. Ray picks one with a baby with a bowl of spaghetti on its head.
For the last number of years, the family didn't give presents on their birthday, but because it was his 65th, Robert and Marie got him something and Ray didn't. Robert laughs when he finds out Ray didn't buy his father anything. Ray panics and asks Debra for help. But Debra has already decided to attach herself to the present that Ally and the twins made for Frank.
Marie got him a sweater and Robert got him the Remote Boat. Robert incidentally got the same card for Frank as did Ray. Only Robert gave it first. Frank loves the remote boat and believes that it is a worthy invention. Ray, on the other hand, lies and says he special ordered something, but it hasn't arrived yet. Marie and Frank beg Ray not to order them the fruit of the month service. Robert says that he ordered the remote boat from a catalog, and it arrived on time.
Ray is in a fix now. He doesn't know what he can get Frank that would top the remote boat. Debra suggests that Ray takes Frank to a ball game. But Ray says that it has to be something ordered from a catalog, as he needs to stick to his lie. He thinks of a Universal remote, that would make the remote boat redundant.
Frank loves the tank and Robert's remote boat is easily overshadowed. Debra is particularly happy as Frank doesn't come over to her house anymore.
Ray is then worried because he knows he has to top himself next year and get an even better gift.
Then when one of the fish dies, Frank becomes upset. Frank locks himself in the kitchen and asks Ray not to bring him any more presents. Debra suggests that, since Frank is getting older, the dead fish could be somewhat symbolic of his own mortality. Ray is not convinced since Frank has never been that deep. Frank believes that the moral of the Adam & Eve story is not to eat naked. Debra says that Frank is afraid of dying and then Ray gave him the gift of death. So, Ray confronts his father about it. Frank was sulking bad and had already moved the TV into the kitchen since he did not want to be in the same room as the fish. As it turns out, Frank was only upset because he found out how much money Ray had spent on it: a $40 fish in a $600 aquarium.
So finally, they get rid of the tank and donate it to Wo-Hop's restaurant.
