Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
This Past Weekend:
Presidents' Day weekend was an interesting one at the box office, and as with most holiday weekends, it was particularly difficult to figure out how things might fare, other than The Lego Batman Movie, which remained at #1 with almost $45 million over the four-day weekend. Fifty Shades Darker followed with $21.3 million, about a 50% drop. Last week, I thought that the Ice Cub comedy Fist Fight would beat The Great Wall, although it seemed like it could be a close race. Nope. Matt Damon’s action epic came in third place with $21.6 million, which is a couple million more than my original prediction, but The Fist Fight fell short of my prediction by almost $10 million, grossing $14.5 million in its first four days.

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
This Past Weekend:
The Lego Batman Movie won the weekend as expected, but not with nearly as much money as I had predicted, not besting the opening of The Lego Movie as expected, but instead ending up with a reasonable and not so bad $53 million. Fifty Shades Darker proved that the audience for movies based on the popular books was still great enough for it to win Friday with $21 million (to Lego Batman’s $15 million) and end up second for the weekend with a strong $46.6 million. That was still almost $40 million less than the opening of the previous movie Fifty Shades of Grey, but the sequel also didn’t have the benefits of Valentine’s Day and a four-day holiday. Coming in...

Supergirl was a show that started off on an okay note. Like most TV shows, it took a bit for it to hit its stride, and for me, it was about episode 6 or 8 of Season 1 where it truly began to take off. For the first time, I found myself attached to the characters who, up until that point, had seemed like cardboard cutout figures. Fun cardboard cutout figures. But cardboard figures nonetheless.
The show progressively got me more involved, and halfway through the first season, I became a legit fan of the show -- as much of a fan as The Flash, even, which is one of my favorite shows on network TV.
Last season left off on a particularly frustrating note: with Kara opening up a pod similar to the one she crash-landed on Earth in years before. We never got a look at what was inside the pod,...

Filmmaker Gavin O’Connor has had a lot of ups and downs in his career, at least in terms of his films getting a proper release, but he’s still managed to establish himself as a director that actors want to work with, whether it’s Edward Norton and Colin Farrell for his crime drama Pride & Glory or Natalie Portman in the Western Jane Got a Gun. Probably O’Connor’s strongest genre to date though has been his popular sports films, Miracle and Warrior, which go into the world of Olympic hockey and mixed martial arts, respectively.
O’Connor’s latest movie The Accountant is an action-thriller starring Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff, known in the criminal circuit as “The Accountant,” not just for the mathematical skills he’s able to use for laundering money, but also for the efficiency with which he takes down the targets he’s hired to eliminate.

The Weeknd just dominated his performance of "Earned It" at the Oscars 2016 on Sunday. After being introduced by Kevin Hart, the 26-year-old took the stage at the 88th Annual Academy Awards to perform his Oscar-nominated song that was featured in the movie Fifty Shades of Grey. Keeping with the theme of the movie, The Weeknd made his performance seriously sexy. While singing, The Weekend was surrounded by scantily clad dancers and one incredible trapeze artist who pulled off some amazing moves. For The Weeknd's performance, Swarovski created a custom stage. The production design team wanted to make the music video come to life and included 10 custom designed torcheries with eight different...
