- Esme interviews girls for the club. Many pay protection to Scott, a vicious pimp who, to put her off, smashes up Esme's room, injuring Kate when a mirror is broken. Stephen is especially concerned for Kate's welfare. Esme is proud that her old business acumen has not left her but is genuine that the girls from the Manhattan should be safe from Scott and is shocked when Marcus tells her he has forced Scott out of the picture by burning his warehouse down. Scott tells Esme, in Marcus's hearing that she has two children and he tells her where they are. Marcus feels she should see them but she refuses, believing it would upset them. Stephen breaks up with Christina and follows the charabanc taking the staff on a day-trip to the seaside to tell Kate that he loves her.—don @ minifie-1
- Esme Harkness and Marcus Bannerman pursue their partnership but come up against Mr. Scott who currently controls most of the prostitutes in Manchester. Scott makes his presence known when he sends one of his thugs to the hotel to leave Esme a very clear message. When Kate comes across him in Esme's room, she is manhandled and scared half to death. Marcus isn't going to putt up with Scott's threats and responds in kind. Scott offers Esme some information that he thinks she would be very keen to know. Stephen dotes over Kate as she recovers from the attack and it becomes clear that he still has strong feelings for her. He decides to do something about it. The staff have their annual outing to the seashore but young Lark Rothery is terrified at thought. Mrs. Harvey takes her under her wing and calms her fears.—garykmcd
