An honest disturbing romantic drama - A must see movie
reg-1648 February 2006
I was so surprised with this movie. Thought it was going to be all clichés and censored to hell. But what a surprise. I have not been moved like this since watching the 1957 Peyton Place.

So raw and honest and true to the original story.Brokeback Mountain will become a masterpiece. An enduring love story. The scenery was breathtaking. The direction superb. The casting faultless. The acting well, one can only say emotional, beautiful, sensitive and definitely Oscar winning performances. Heath Ledger and Jake Gillanhall are two truly rare and beautiful men who dared to have the courage to bring this to the screen. It was shocking, funny annoying but mostly thought provoking and terribly terribly sad. People leaving the cinema each time I went come out misty eyed, including me. Acadamy award winning material without a doubt.Just thank you to all concerned for a wonderful experience.

Love is Love

This was the most incredible movie I have ever seen. The depth of this movie in all aspects (acting, directing, music, filming) let the story unfold flawlessly. Because I didn't see a gay love story, but a love story between to individuals. It touch me directly and deeply. I had the most profound relationship while in the Marine Corps. I was gay and this may sound strange, but he was not. He said he fell in love with ME. We had plans after we came back from Vietnam to start a life together in Los Angeles (he was from a small town in Texas and as in the movie we were concerned about how people would except our relationship). Sadly he was killed in Vietnam two weeks before being transferred back to the States. I believe in all my heart that we would still be together. I never had a such a strong love again. This movie hit me hard -- I've seen it 6 times. I was very pleased by the response from audience. I read the story when it came out in the New Yorker....and found it in an old file with pictures of my friend.

Wonderfully done and important story well over due.

A beautiful and unforgettable love story that unfortunately so many would never understand or have any compassion for. The comments made by comedians, especially, Jay Leno, David Letterman and Kimmel are hideous and I hope many thousands of viewers that have a ounce of compassion never see or support their careers again. These so called "jokes" have destroyed many lives and contribute to the large number of deaths of young people that are made to feel hated and ashamed for the way they feel, because of what they are. The hatred and lack of compassion displayed by civilized people, against others is so very sad and unexplainable. All people that are or will become parents, and all the adults in their lives must stop the circle of hate due to lack of knowledge or understanding of others. This movie shows what the behavior of our society and religious beliefs, has done to the lives to so many. This story is real life to many, and was clearly written to educated the public how their nonacceptance of others causes nothing but heartache, pain, and wasted lives for so many. The work done in this story and movie is remarkable, and done with outstanding talented and beautiful people.

A true love story

Warning: Spoilers
I think that is the ultimate love story. Is really sad and and breath taking. Ang Lee just try and succeed at breaking our hearts and prejudices because in the beginning is a little uncomfortable but while the movie is developing you start feeling all that emotional charge and by the end you can't stop felling dawn. so I congratulate all the people involve in the movie, especially Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger for a wonderful heart felted performance for making us believe the premise that loves comes in different shapes and gets to us in mysteriously wonderful ways and we just have to make the most of it, or we could loose the chance for happiness.

The most riveting and realistic love story I've ever seen.

Warning: Spoilers
I put off seeing this for 2 years as I've had my heart broken 3 times by "straight" guys who all developed feelings for me. I wasn't sure what to expect and since I'm so quick to temper over issues of religion and societal view of homosexuality, I held out.

During a flight for the holiday I loaded it to my iPod and watched it.

By the time the movie ended, I was sobbing. The nice lady next to me asked me if I was OK. The flight attendant did the same. In 30 years, no movie has EVER made me do that. This movie touched on my entire life. It touched on things that I see everybody wants but few achieve. And apparently it touches others too.

This movie stirs powerful, profound emotions from everyone who watches it. Male or Female, Gay or Straight—it does relate to you. It has permanently affected me like no other movie has to date.

In utter amazement and joy, riding waves of love and terror from past experience-- unfolding again right in front of me.... I watched my pursuit of love unfold on screen, with the same results.

The only reason why this movie is so difficult for some to see (for different reasons), and why it is so powerful is that it is a perfect mirror of humanity and how society is.

It shows what COULD be for anyone, if it weren't for religious/cultural/social conformity and edicts on just who is supposed to be with whom.

It is truth. Jack and Ennis could have had the perfect relationship, and we all wanted them to, but for the fact that they were told by society that it is wrong to have loved one another. We ALL wanted them to be together. It is what we each want for ourselves.

It was true love. It was based on friendship, respect, and (ironically) emotional honesty. It lasted. It held out.

This movie provides a "what if" scenario, that is so possible and normal, that we have to ask "why are we so intolerant-- what is so wrong with Jack and Ennis being together-- what did we do as a society to discourage them???" (To all... please think of that the next time the "defense of marriage act" comes into any voting issues. Gay couples have the same fundamental right to pursue the same happiness as heterosexuals despite what the "majority" of society says-- if this movie touched you then you should agree.) This movie stirs you because it reflects how powerful an influence our learning environment can be, and the roles society and our parents put on us that we are programmed and expected to follow-- and if not we face dangerous, drastic unknowns.

All told, after having all my life experiences confirmed by this movie, I now firmly and avidly detest and denounce all those institutions and individuals who have contributed to the suppression of homosexual relationships. They have ruined countless lives and destroyed many chances of deep and profound relationships occurring as in the movie.

Ironically, again I am afraid to watch it, but for entirely different reasons. I don't have the strength yet to sit through the truly beautiful and devastating emotional rides this movie delivers. I've spent years trying not to think of my failed attempts to be with my own Ennis. I focus on the friendships I have with them to this day instead. But it hurts so much... I can't quit any of them it seems, just like Jack.

Wow.
