- Believing Zorro to be dead, and with most of Garcia's men out of town, Varga decides to put his plan to take over all of California in motion. He imprisons Don Alejandro, Diego, Bernardo, and Garcia, and his men overwhelm what there is of Garcia's forces. All Varga needs is the list of names of the men in Don Alejandro's army. To stop the mad "Eagle", Diego must pretend to betray his father.—rbecker28
- After Garcia leaves the LA compound with the Lancers, Varga moves to display the golden Eagle and give his compadres firearms. As to these developments, Bernardo updates Diego, who tries to warn his father. Varga's men, however, seize Alejandro, Diego and Bernardo and confine them to the cellar. Confused by the emptiness of the pueblo upon his return, Garcia is seized by Greco and also put in the cellar. Varga then pronounces his sovereignty of all of CA and raises a Black Eagle flag. Kolinko won't pay (13M pesos) as long as the 50 man citizens army is not under control. Risking his life, Alejandro won't deliver the list of the 50 men to Varga. Then, to the chagrin of Alejandro and Garcia, Diego asks to be set free so he can get the list (and be able to get loose) at the Hacienda. While Varga is being impatient waiting for Diego's list, Greco returns with bad news. After again being denied payment with their agreement now canceled, Varga shoots Kolinko in the back. Zorro frees Alejandro, Bernardo and Garcia from the cellar, so that together, with limited gunpowder, they can fight off Varga's men until the citizens arrive. As he tries to escape, Varga shuts the gate on Greco. Zorro then defeats Varga in a sword fight duel but first frees the soldiers held in jail. After his being double-crossed, it is Greco who shoots Varga dead. After prevailing over Varga's men, the citizens inform Alejandro that it was Diego who notified them. Alejandro acknowledges to Diego that it is sometimes more important to run and get help than to stay and fight. The CA flag is then raised over LA.—rwzimdpa@comcast.net
