The man who amputates
More than anything else this Zane Grey Theater story is a story of the medical profession in war than anything else. Dealing with mass casualties as they do, it's easier to save a life with amputation than take time to save a limb. Joseph Cotten as an army doctor in the Civil War probably did enough amputations and it's his bad luck to run into Claude Akins who may have been a patient.
Even though he's the town marshal and missing a leg Akins is still a good man with a gun and crutch. He thinks he recognizes Cotten as the man who took his leg and hopes to goad him into a fight. Cotten now makes his living at the poker table which has a reputation of being a place where quarrels occur.
Both Cotten and Akins are fine and there's a bit here by Dan Blocker as the town blacksmith before he was Hoss Cartwright.
