This particular Young Riders episode is set against the background of a brewing
sectional conflict. During the course of th story Anthony Zerbe mentions the
threats against Fort Sumter in Charleston.
But our story concerns a mentor to Don Franklin, Richard Roundtree who is the
preacher/teacher of a congregation of free black people in Kansas. When they shelter a runaway, slavecatchers take the runaway and Roundtree for good measure. And Noah when he tries to rescue them alone.
This episode also goes into the background of Wild Bill Hickok who did in fact
come from an abolitionist family. Josh Brolin and Ty Miller go to Noah's rescue and Brolin rounds up his own cavalry.
Good performances from Don Franklin and Richard Roundtree highlight this exceptional episode.
