Gibson is seen watching The Simpsons (1989) and King of the Hill (1997), which aired on the Fox Network along with "The X-Files," and Silver Surfer (1998), which aired on Fox Kids. He makes several remarks about how good the shows are and how he wishes he could watch them at home. When Mulder mentions Baywatch (1989) to the boy, he voices his dislike for the show, which was broadcast on NBC, a Fox competitor.
This is titled "The End" and features "THE END" in the opening credits because it was supposed to be the series finale of the show. The first The X Files (1998) movie takes place after this episode but before The Beginning (1998), which picks up where the movie ends. The reason for this is that the show's creator Chris Carter wanted to end the show and tell the stories through motion pictures. The movies themselves do omit some information though so as to allow them to be stand alone story lines in the event viewers were not familiar with the TV show.
This was the last X-Files production filmed in Vancouver until the second movie, The X Files: I Want to Believe (2008).
Despite the first five seasons being shot there, this is the only episode to feature a scene set in Vancouver.
