- Dave Markson: I know you. You'll fight just as hard to protect me as...
- Whispering Smith: ...a honest man?
- Dave Markson: Well, I guess I'll just have to forget about the money.
- Whispering Smith: So would I... if it's going to be that hard to collect. Ten thousand dollars isn't worth dyin' for.
- Dave Markson: You know, I've often wondered how much *is* worth dying for.
- George Romack: Smitty, what makes you think this hundred dollar bill's got anything to do with him taking a shot at you?
- Whispering Smith: When a total stranger starts taking potshots at you, he's either hired or you stole his wife... and I haven't misappropriated any wives lately.
- Whispering Smith: There's something wrong with this whole set-up. First Markson tries to hire me to get out of town, then a total stranger takes a shot at me.
- George Romack: And Dorset's right there to drop the guy off the roof.
- Whispering Smith: Yeah and I was off duty, too. I wish they wouldn't shoot at me when I'm on my own time.
- George Romack: Trouble?
- Whispering Smith: No, no trouble at all, but if either Dorset or Lane starts following me again, lock 'em up. Come on.
- George Romack: Right. What charge?
- Whispering Smith: Interferin' with the law in the discharge of its duty - that has a nice legal ring to it, doesn't it? Hope it's on the books.
- Rios: I heard there was two hundred dollars out for the man who could kill you; I let it out that I was willing to try. After all, my gun is my business. When I'm not usin' it, I'm out of work.
- Whispering Smith: What riles me so much is not these fellows trying to pick up a quick two hundred - the man's tryin' to hire my murderer so cheap!
- Frankie Wisdom: I don't like you Smith. I don't like anything you stand for, but there's no reason to have you killed.
- Whispering Smith: I can think of one - money.
- Whispering Smith: There's one thing, Dave - that rifle's not cocked. I say there's about an even money chance I get off a shot before you can.
- Dave Markson: You're bluffin', Smith.
- Whispering Smith: You're a gamblin' man - call me!
