In the scene where Grandpa Will Geer goes into Godsey's store for turpentine, Ike Joe Conley asks him "...are you going to take it with you, or drink it here?". This is a joking reference to an earlier episode, The Quilting (1976) where Grandpa gets a jar of "The Recipe" from the Baldwin Sisters Mary JacksonHelen Kleeband Ben Eric Scott gets an identical looking jar of turpentine. The jars get switched at some point and Grandpa brings the wrong jar to a gathering at Ike's store, where he realizes it is turpentine and not "The Recipe".

The World War I battle Ep Bridges was decorated for was the Battle of Chateau Thierry, fought on 31 May 1918 and was one of the first actions of the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) under General John J. Pershing.
