- Curtis and Ann are unhappy to learn that they are unable to have children of their own. However, an orphan boy visiting with the Waltons shows them that they can still have a family by adopting him.
- The Walton family takes in an orphan, Stevie, for a short visit in order to give him an idea of what a real family is like. Stevie has a hard time adjusting to family life and has a real chip on his shoulder. After accidentally knocking over something he starts running away and meets up with Curtis Norton, the local blacksmith.
Curtis is married to Ann who attempts to fulfill her life by matching the sets of her favorite Hollywood movies and buying the latest copies of movie star dresses. John-boy has been helping Curtis while he recovers from second degree burn.
There is instant love between the boy and himself and in time they realize he is an orphan . Curtis and Ann would like to have children but Ann has been told that she is not capable to bare children. As Curtis and Stevie interact we see the boy finally start to come out of his shell. Ann deals with her bareness and refuses to give up hope of having her own baby. Curtis knows he love Stevie but won't push Ann to adopt him even though Ann herself has taken a shining to him, she won't admit it, or will she?
