Slow but intentional TV
rachelschupick21 June 2023
The show is quite slow but they it feels like they take their time with the extra shots to ensure they are either pretty, or add to the drama of the scene.

I watched this in 2023 and tried to look at this episode as if I was in 1960. Not what I'm used to but doesn't mean it lacks quality.

As I said above, the show does feel intentional. The actors take the jobs seriously and don't try to overact, but keep it meaningful. There are quite a few moments that do feel slow with seconds of characters looking at each other or setting the scene. With TV and TV shows being an ever evolving media that hadn't been around very long, it must've been nice to feel like the show was paced at an understandable rate.

It's not the most amazing plot or interesting characters I've ever met, and for some they may feel totally disengaged. I was able to at least connect with the characters enough to watch the movie, but not necessarily care about them. I leave my rating at a 6.

A good catch of Harrison Ford early in his career!

Hostages at Shiloh
bkoganbing9 February 2020
A botched bank robbery has one outlaw caught and three of them fleeing from Medicine Bow. They take refuge at the ranch and hold Charles Bickford, Sara Lane, and Don Quine hostage until they can get a doctor for their badly wounded friend.

The wounded one is John Goddard and the other two are John Saxon and a young Harrison Ford in one of his earliest roles. Bickford delivers one of his best performances in his short time on The Virginian, steadying his two grandchildren in this crisis.

How do they get out of it? Check out the demise of Russ Coulmbo and you'll figure it out.

Warning: Spoilers
The old man likes the westerns, so that's what we're watching. First I recognized John Saxon, then, low and behold, it's one Harrison Ford in one of his first credited roles ! What a treat. I don't really care much for the westerns, except for Blazing Saddles, Three Amigos, oh, and the original Beguiled (not really a western) and maybe High Plains Drifter, and maybe a few others....but these early TV sagas provided pay checks for a lot of actors, and you can see some nice antiques in the background. So check it out. Who knew Harrison Ford was ever that young !
