John McIntire and his real life wife Jeanette Nolan replace Charles Bickford in the cast as John Grainger's brother and sister-in-law after Bickford passes away in real life.
This marked the second time that John McIntire replaced a deceased actor on an NBC western series; he had previously taken over for Ward Bond on "Wagon Train."
This episode was sort of a mini-reunion, as it featured four actors from the cast of Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho"--John McIntire, John Anderson, Jeanette Nolan and Virginia Gregg (the latter two were the voice of Mrs. Bates).
John McIntire and John Anderson both appeared in Psycho (1960); John McIntire as Sheriff Al Chambers and John Anderson as California Charlie. Virginia Gregg and Jeanette Nolan were also part of Psycho with uncredited roles as the voice of Norma Bates.
