Contractor Ulrich Möbius is obsessed with card games, notably 'hearts', so he and his playmates practically ignore the cruise-specific options, including his wife, whose flirtation he doesn't even notice her most serious admirer, Peter Böhmke. Young honeymooner Harald Horn from Münich overestimates his cards skills, losing his and bride Barbara's holiday budget. Aging singer-illusionist Eliane Roth, a former opera star, is accompanied by bitterly-nostalgic pianist Hans Plattner. Eliane dreads performing in front of passenger director Pieter van Kraan, who is writing his memoirs, but he resolves to restore her self-image. Werner Hansen unfortunately has to share his cabin with ingrate, boorish eccentric Herrn Gerold, who imposes his will and abuses Gerold's generosity but the gloves are off when both have a crush on passenger Anette.
