- Bob is livid and worried sick to read Price Mart is opening a branch in Point Place. Their prices are much lower than Bob's and he knows this will hurt his business. Price Mart sells a toaster for $14.95 and Bob sells the same thing for almost twice that price. Bob knows that all his customers will go to Price Mart, as $14.95 is below his cost. Bob will go out of business soon.
Bob asks Red not to seek a position with Price Mart as big corporations like them destroy little businesses all over America. Red seeks a managerial position after he read the advert in Bob's paper. Eric also wants to apply at Price Mart, but Red is against it. He also argues that Hyde is also working to contribute around the house. Hyde argues that Eric has potential, but Hyde would be considered a success if he manages to stay out of jail. Kitty agrees with Red and says that Eric's only job is to study.
Red attends the interview and is offered a position as a cashier, which Red refuses, as he is management. Red waits at home for the phone call and is very nervous. The phone finally rings after an agonizing wait. They have good news. Eric is hired as a stock boy before Red, much to Red's annoyance. Eric wants to help, taking a hamburger job, but Red is against, feeling diminished in his breadwinner pride, Kitty tries to sooth both.
Red thinks about taking the cashier job as he wants Eric to study, get good grades, get a scholarship and go to college, but Kitty explains that having a job is good for Eric's self-esteem. Red goes back to accept the cashier's job but sticks his guns for the supervisor's role and gets it. Red is happy and fires Eric. Eric stands up for himself and says that he wants to do the job. Red relents and tells Eric that he is fired if his grades slip. Red tells Bob that he really needed the job and that's that. Red and Eric head to their first day on the job together.
Lately, Laurie is feeling down as she thinks all her friends are at college and she is the only one who is a failure at life. She only wants to talk to Kelso. Kelso falls asleep while Laurie goes on rambling. When she finishes, Kelso wakes up and says he agrees with whatever she said. Laurie is ecstatic.
Laurie wants a real relationship with Kelso, and Kelso is unsure if he should continue dating her. Kelso finds dating both Jackie and Laurie disappointing: he mainly gets double nagging and expectations, little physical fun. In his dreams Kelso imagined dating 2 girls together to involve many more threesomes, which Donne jumping in from time to time. In Kelso's dreams, there are no bras allowed. Kelso starts hiding from Laurie as she wants to read her high school diaries to him. He tries to end it with Laurie, until Laurie threatens him with revealing his infidelity to Jackie. Kelso has no option but to continue his relationship with Jackie.
