Barry Crane came aboard Supertrain to direct his first episode. Ned Parsons was figuratively on pay-roll but not prepping any future show. Hub Braden, as the art director, met with Barry, to discuss and resolve set requirements stipulated in the story about the moving Supertrain. Unbeknown to Braden was Barry Crane's professional poker championship career, besides being a TV Director. When meeting, Barry asked "have you done your homework?". During their discussion of the script, Barry, a raised eyebrow, said "We'll see if you have done your homework!". The session required the entire day, walking studio sets, and the location sets. Afterwards, Barry Crane declared "you did your homework!" Barry's mind was functioning as though he was playing a card game. He directed the same way, like a game of chess, cast and crew all part of a board game.
