This episode is set during the 2004 NBA All-Star Game (2004) which was held in Los Angeles in the 2003-2004 NBA Season. However in real life, only Yao Ming (Center Force) and Tracy McGrady (Spin Drive) were named All-Stars in 2004. Karl Malone (Pulverizer) suffered a knee injury in December 2003 and was not selected to participate in the 2004 All-Star game. Malone's last All-Star appearance was in the 2002 NBA All-Star Game (2002) where he was teammates with Steve Nash who was making his first All-Star appearance. Nash was again selected to participate in the 2003 NBA All-Star Game (2003), but not in 2004. Also, all of the players would not be on the same team as during the 2004 NBA All-Star game: Karl Malone, Steve Nash and Yao Ming all played in the Western Conference for the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, and Houston Rockets respectively and Tracy McGrady played in the Eastern Conference for the Orlando Magic. Additionally, the Western and Eastern all-star players would not be wearing their respective team uniforms as that practice was discontinued after the 2002 NBA All-Star game. By 2004 both East and West each wore a All-Star game uniform.
According to Dwayne McDuffie, the creative team were initially not enthusiastic on doing this episode, but was forced to by the WB network. However, they did enjoy meeting Karl Malone was voiced his himself in this episode and signed autographs for the production crew.
