- Dr. Crusher's fear of losing loved ones becomes real when her worries create an alternate reality.
- Docking at Starbase 133 for crew rotation, Doctor Beverly Crusher was happy to rejoin her old, widowed mentor Doctor Dalen Quaice, but Computer reports he's not aboard at all, nor has he any Starfleet service record anymore. After four of her medical staff members disappear similarly, Wesley thinks up an experimental warp bubble-effect theory, but Data points out she has no staff and is wrong about the staff size by over 800. Next she barely escapes a vortex, but no sensor recording or anomaly concurs with its existence; Deanna refuses to answer if she's going mad. When Wesley tells her the only one who must know more about warp bubbles is a strange alien, the Traveler, who combined it with mind power to create an alternate reality, Beverly believes somehow that technique must have been recreated during the experiment.—KGF Vissers
- Dr. Crusher welcomes her old friend and mentor Dr. Dalen Quaice aboard the Enterprise. When he fails to join her for breakfast as planned she goes to his quarters to find them vacant. The ship's computer says it cannot locate Dr. Quaice anywhere on board. In fact, the database says that such a person has never existed. A search of the ship reveals nothing until Crusher begins to realize that other members of the Enterprise crew are disappearing as well. When she is very nearly sucked into a vortex of some some sort, she believes she's found out just what is happening to the crew. It's actually far more complex however.—garykmcd
- Docking at Star base 133 for crew rotation, Doctor Beverly Crusher was happy to re-join her old, widowed mentor Doctor Dalen Quaice (Bill Erwin). Wesley uses the downtime to conduct an experiment on the warp drive engines. Beverly comes to visit him in engineering. Geordi is rushing Wesley. Something goes wrong and there is a visible flash of light outside the warp drive. Beverly vanishes, but Wesley doesn't notice at all. Beverly can't find Dalen on the ship and Computer reports he's not aboard at all, nor has he any Starfleet service record anymore. Picard doesn't remember approving this request from Beverly. 6 more of her medical staff members disappear in a similar fashion. nobody remembers them.
Wesley thinks up an experimental warp bubble-effect theory. His experiment led to warp fields expanding for a flash second, before returning to normal. But Picard is skeptical as Dalen or members of Beverly's staff where nowhere near the Engineering section at the time of the experiment. Plus, a warp flash could not have erased memories of everybody in the galaxy. Beverly returns to sickbay to find the entire bay empty. She reports to Picard. Data points out she has no staff, and The Enterprise is carrying only 230 people as opposed to 1000+ which is what Beverly thinks.
Next, she barely escapes a vortex in sickbay while she was alone, but no sensor recording, or anomaly concurs with its existence; Deanna refuses to answer if she's going mad. Data now reports there are 114 people on the ship but says there is nothing unusual going on. Worf is gone as well.
When Wesley tells her the only one who must know more about warp bubbles is a strange alien, the Traveller, who combined it with mind power to create an alternate reality, Beverly believes somehow that technique must have been recreated during the experiment. Wesley has sent a message to Tau alpha C (the home planet of the traveler), but it could take days to get there. Meanwhile Wesley also disappears. Only Picard is left, and he has never heard of Riker, or Data, or Troi or anyone else. Suddenly, as Beverly is talking, Picard is gone too, and she is all alone on the giant spaceship. The vortex appears again, and Beverly survives by hanging on to a chair.
Turns out it was Beverly who had been transported to an alternate reality during the experiment. Now Wesley and Geordi are working to recreate the Warp bubble to bring her back, which cause the vortexes. But 2 attempts to bring her back have failed. The Traveller (Eric Menyuk) reappears. He tells Wesley that Beverly is trapped in her own reality that she created during the exact moment of the warp bubble. As long as she thinks she is alive, she will be.
Meanwhile Beverly tries to go to Tau Alpha C to get help, but the computer tells her that system doesn't exist either. The Traveller helps Wesley but finds that the warp bubble in which Beverly got trapped is collapsing in on itself. To Beverly, it looks like her whole universe is collapsing in on her. Beverly realizes that her universe is basically the warp bubble, which means she is the one trapped inside it. She also realizes that at the time of the warp bubble she was thinking of Dalen and how all the people he knew had gone. She realizes these thoughts of hers created this universe. She also realizes that a stable threshold between the warp bubble and the known universe would take the form of a vortex. Which means the 2 vortex's she saw were Wesley's attempts to get her back.
Beverly rushes to Engineering, where Wesley has worked with the Traveller to create a threshold and Beverly jumps right through it to return back to her Universe.
