- TriviaIn this episode, a character named Mikail Mxyzptlk appears with mind control powers. He is overcome by a tip from a Google search that asks if "KLTPZYXM" was meant. In the Superman comics, Mr. Mxyzptlk was a being from the fifth dimension that occasionally annoyed Superman and could only be temporarily defeated by tricking him into saying his name backwards.
- GoofsWhen Clark is in the barn throwing footballs through the tire. He starts out with four footballs on the rack, but after he throws two, there's only one ball left.
- Quotes
Jonathan Kent: Clark. What are you doing?
Clark Kent: You know what Mikhail said. He'd hurt those guys if I wasn't out there.
Jonathan Kent: A bunch of 250 pound guys banging into each other on a football field is one thing. But getting hit by you is like getting run over by a freight train. It's a big difference, son.
Clark Kent: I hope that doesn't happen. I think Chloe and I found a way to stop Mikhail.
Jonathan Kent: Oh, Chloe and you think you've found a way to stop him. Well, I'm sorry, son, thinking is not good enough.
Clark Kent: Dad, I know you don't agree with me, but sometimes taking responsibility means having faith in yourself to make the hard choices.
Jonathan Kent: And it also means being willing to accept the consequences.
Clark Kent: Every handshake, every hug, every time I'm out on that field, I make a conscious decision to fall when those guys hit me so they don't get hurt. No matter how hard you try, you can't understand that. That's why it's my decision, not yours.
Jonathan Kent: [heavy sigh] You're starting to sound more and more like your father.
Clark Kent: [with a pleased smile] I hope so, dad.
- ConnectionsFeatured in Smallville: Blank (2005)
Mikhail Mxyzptlk is a foreign student attending Smallville High on a prestigious Luthor scholarship. As an average student in the Balkans, Lex is suspicious as to why Lionel awarded the scholarship to Mxyzptlk. As it turns out, Mxyzptlk can control other's physical actions through the power of suggestion. He tries to throw the high school football semifinal game to make Smallville High lose, which causes Clark to brutally injure an opposing player, who breaks his collarbone in two places. As a result, the issue comes up between Clark and his father over whether it is safe, and right, to play football. Jonathan doesn't want Clark to play in the championship game with the concern that a similar thing could happen, especially with Mxyzptlk around. In the championship game, Clark must not only worry about leading his team to the winning drive, but also saving Chloe's life from Mxyzptlk at the same time. Also, Lana's boyfriend Jason Teague is fired from the school after the game, and Lana blames it on Clark.
In addition, at the end of the episode Lex takes Mxyzptlk to an interesting LuthorCorp level called 33.1 to show Mikhail "people who are just like him." This episode is awesome because it involves a Superman character from the comics, has a great save scene at the end during the football game, and because of the 33.1 revelation at the end of the episode.
