A deleted scene shows the residents of Springfield Retirement Castle making a risqué movie titled What the Pool Boy Saw to enter in the Springfield Film Festival.
Rainier Wolfcastle's line, "on closer inspection, these are loafers," was an ad-lib. Dan Castellaneta was providing the voice of the character on a temporary track. Wolfcastle's normal voice actor, Harry Shearer, later re-recorded the line.
Matt Groening had his name removed in protest from the credits of this episode, because he felt that it made the episode into an advertisement for the other show. Groening stated in the L.A. Times that he didn't feel that he and The Simpsons (1989) should share any credit or blame for how the other show performed.
Jay Sherman is "Simpsonized", in the sense that his skin is yellow for this episode, even though he has pink skin on The Critic. Later, when The Simpsons did a crossover with Family Guy, the visiting characters would keep their pink skin.
Patty and Selma ask Jay who is gay in Hollywood. The first name he comes up with is Harvey Fierstein. Not only is Firestein openly gay, but many of his characters are gay, most notably his roles in Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) and the season two episode of this series Simpson and Delilah (1990).
