Storyline
Did you know
- GoofsIn the final scene the gun which is the subject of the entire episode is shown in a close up shot. It is more than obvious that what had been described as a Saturday night special even in the title was in fact a Smith and Wesson J frame 5 shot revolver. A very high quality revolver and certainly not a Saturday night special.

Officer Mike Danko: [It's 6:00 in the morning at the Precinct. Officers Mike Danko and Terry Webster are lounging against the wall, engaged in conversation] Oh, I tell you, with me and Jill on opposite shifts, life has not been easy lately.
Officer Terry Webster: [Mike is dead-serious as he gazes at Terry. Terry is quite amused and he smiles. He looks back at Mike and starts laughing, holding onto his sides] Yeah. Well that's just Ryker's way of contributing to zero-population.
Officer Mike Danko: [Mike laughs ruefully] It's working.
Officer Terry Webster: [Terry laughs in agreement] It's working!
Officer Mike Danko: [Officer Chris Owens comes up to Mike and Terry. He's holding three cups in his hands and offers the cup with black coffee to Mike] I wanted cream.
Officer Chris Owens: [Chris's expression is serious as Mike takes the cup from him] . Coffee machine says you get... black.
Officer Terry Webster: [Chris hands a cup to Terry, who frowns slightly] Cream and sugar.
Officer Chris Owens: [Chris keeps a deadpan expression on his face as Terry takes the cup from him] Coffee machine says you get... hot chocolate.
Officer Mike Danko, Officer Terry Webster: [Mike and Terry look at each other, then down the hallway toward the coffee machine. They reply in unison to Chris] . Coffee machine?
Officer Chris Owens: Don't be upset with the coffee machine. It's only 6:00 and it's not awake yet.
Officer Terry Webster: [the guys start drinking their drinks, shaking their heads] It's going to be one of those days...
This is a solid episode with an interesting story, plenty of action and fine performances by the entire cast.
There are several chases, a couple of shootouts and some nice stunts too.
Don Stroud made a career out of playing short-tempered wackos, ex-cons, thugs and hoods and he's excellent here as Grange, the gorilla who eventually takes possession of the gun. As usual, he's living in a dump, has no money, is hanging around in seedy pool halls and beating people up and is committing robberies. When he notices the rookies have spotted him while he's walking down the street, he hightails it out of there and the rookies are then forced to chase him on foot, which is the story of his life as he's ALWAYS on the run from the law. Eventually, the gun is stolen from Grange by his cousin who takes it as collateral for money Grange owes him. Bad idea. You don't mess with Don Stroud.
Bruce Fairbairn's hair is thicker and wavier than it was before and he has it combed nicely too, so it's looking really sweet. It's great to see he's getting into the habit of combing it before each scene.
This is a great episode and one of the best this season.
