In this story, a divorced woman is in the hospital for the long term and leaves her daughter with her sister (the girl's aunt). The girl's father, who never showed interest in the girl before, takes his daughter to live with him instead. Mom is worried and hires Richard Diamond to help her get her daughter back into her sister's custody.
Richard Diamond turns out to have a soft heart. His reason for taking this case: "There's a child involved. The mother's all trussed up in a hospital bed, worried and scared half to death."
David Janssen had such great rapport with kids. In this episode, he had three great scenes with 10-year-old Marjorie, played by actress Cheryl Callaway. She's very cute and very good in her role. Their interplay is very engaging. Janssen is gentle with her. Their reactions to each other during their conversations are really wonderful to watch. What a different time this was. Nowadays, a strange man wouldn't be able to walk up to a young girl and start talking to her.
Janssen's facial expressions and voiceovers enhanced this unusual episode even more.
