This is the second of a two-part episode of "Quincy". While some might like the fact that the Doctor was getting married, to me this marks the absolute lowest point of the show. In my opinion, bringing in a new Mrs. Quincy is just a sign that the writers had run out of ideas. It also damaged the series because of the sort of woman she (Anita Gillette) played, as she was as big a know-it-all as Quincy and offered no counter-point to him. Instead, it was like having TWO Quincys!! Two means two on crusades and two preaching about various social ills. And, the social issues episodes were among the worst in the series--and the better crime investigation shows were no longer the norm.
This episode begins with the marriage canceled and Dr. Hanover and Dr. Quincy needing to talk about what to do next. While Quincy wants to get married, part of his also doesn't. And, to appease Hanover, Quincy had been given a ridiculous ultimatum in part one--sell your boat! Unfortunately, eventually Quincy knuckles under--selling his boat and insisting they get married ASAP (I preferred him when he was single).
Much of the rest of the episode consists of Quincy and the kooky lady from episode one (Jeanette Nolan) investigating the murder. This could have been a lot better but suffered from two problems: The Mrs. Brackett character was fine in small doses but when she is a major character (as she was in episode two) she was downright annoying and Quincy showed absolutely no common sense throughout this investigation and seemed like an idiot--not a well-respected forensic scientist.
Overall, a disappointing end to a rather poor story--one that could have easily been told in one episode, not a two-parter.
