A rather 'normal' case for Petrocelli.

I love to watch old crime shows from the 60s and 70s. But one thing I noticed after a while is that so often the crimes were extraordinary...and no detective or lawyer gets nothing but high profile and once-in-a-lifetime cases all the time! So, "A Life for a Life" was a nice relief....a rather ordinary crime in most ways.

When the show starts, a guy is trying to get a room at a hotel but the clerk lies and tells him none are available. Why? The clerk doesn't like the guy's looks. After the guy sees another person come in and get a room, he storms back and confronts the clerk...and tells him something along the lines of 'I can't wait until this place burns down'...and soon it does!! Not surprisingly, because there were witnesses to the threat, the man is soon arrested for arson and murder, as one person's body was found in the fire. Can Petrocelli figure out exactly what really happened?

As I mentioned above, this one is rather ordinary in most ways. And, as such, it was very well done and worth seeing.

A person is not to blame for his bad appearance or for being poor.

Warning: Spoilers
Excellent chapter. It shows that a person is not to blame for his bad appearance or for being poor. Petrocelli investigates to the end and reaches a very different conclusion than what everyone believed simply because the accused is a dirty-looking person. The secondary plot, about a protected witness, brings a bit of confusion to the main point, making her seem like a suspect. The use of one word or another ("will burn" or "destroy") could have changed things. Great performance by Barry Newman and also by the boy who played the accused.-In general, all the performances in this series are formidable, Barry Newman is able to speak with his face without saying a word.
