There is a scene in Paul Drake's office that reveals a framed drawing of Dick Tracy on Paul's desk.
In the original novel, the lonely heiress was the daughter of a woman who was the beneficiary of a rich man's estate; she was trying to stop his family from tainting a witness so that they could claim his estate. The plot of the episode is not faithful to the novel.
Paul Drake has a secretary named Margo in this episode.
On several occasions throughout the series, Burger accuses Mason of serious violations of not only his duties as an attorney, but as a willful accomplice of his client and criminal acts. But here Burger stands idly by and allows Lt. Tragg to lie, distort truth, and manipulate a woman whom Burger later characterizes in court as having no understanding of the U.S. judicial system or its foundations. Burger is guilty of as serious a breach of ethics as he frequently accused Mason of, which Mason never remotely approached.
First appearance of Paul Drakes secretary Margo, (Gail Kobe), not to be seen again until season 7.
