Kenneth Wangler was convicted of murder in the first degree and sentenced to 20 years in prison with the possibility of parole after six years. For one the state of Indiana does not have different degrees of murder, but in no state would someone convicted of first degree murder (or its equivalent) be paroled after only six years, the minimum sentence for that in every state is life with at least 20 years served before parole eligibility. In Indiana circumstances constituting the equivalent of murder one carry a minimum sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole after 65 years. The absolute minimum sentence for murder (circumstances equal to second degree murder in most states) is 45 years in prison.
