Colonel Galson would have been tried by a military tribunal and sentenced to a military stockade for the rape of his fellow officer rather than being sent to a state correctional facility like Oz. When someone in the military is convicted of a court martial that results in a prison sentence they are always sent to a military prison. Since Galson was a Marine he would be sent to one of the three main prisons operated by the United States Navy, which are called Naval Consolidated Brigs. One is located at Joint Base Charleston in Hanahan, South Carolina, the second at Naval Support Activity Hampton Roads in Chesapeake, Virginia and the third at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California.
The game show the inmates are watching incorrectly states that China has more English speakers than any other country. Not surprisingly the United States is the correct answer, an estimated 297,400,000 people in the US speak English. India comes in second place with 128,539,090 English speakers. China actually comes in 29th, out of China's 1.4 billion people only an estimated 10,000,000 speak English fluently. There are some sources that claim there are 300 million English speakers in China, but these sources are also counting the regions of Hong Kong and Macau (which are not part of mainland China) and are counting people who are only learning the language, not people who speak it fluently. Only someone who speaks a language fluently and regularly are counted as doing so on a census.
When the SORT unit breaks up the fight in the gym one of the officers pushes an inmate against the wall with his baton. However it is obvious that the baton is a rubber prop as it bends when the inmate grabs it.
When in therapy Edward Galson insists on being addressed as "Colonel Galson". However when someone in the military is court martialed and found guilty they are stripped of their rank and reduced to paygrade E-1, which in the Marine Corps is a private. Then they are dishonorably discharged from the military, unless they also got a prison sentence, in which case they don't receive the discharge until after serving their sentence. Galson no longer is worthy of the privilege of being addressed as "colonel", and as he claims to be taking responsibility for his mistake and still respects military tradition he would not be asking people to address him as "colonel". He became Private Edward Galson the moment his sentence was pronounced, in fact the last thing said at a court martial is by the judge who says "Private, you are out of uniform, I am giving you a direct order to remove those (insert rank insignia type)". In Galson's case it would be "birds" as a colonel's insignia is an eagle.
