The character of Kim Greer was played by Kristine Kirsten, who had lost her leg to bone cancer as a teenager. In spite of this, she took up skiing and acting, contributed content to the book "Chicken Soup for the Cancer Survivor's Soul," and carried the Olympic torch in 1996. She passed away in 1999 at the age of 28.
On one of the racing wheelchairs the wheels display a striking black and white pattern. When such a pattern spins fast enough you see it as colored. These "Fechner Colors" have been known since the 1830s. In the 1890s, toy black and white spinning tops were very popular.
Chris calls the Sunrise Road Race 'the der Nuburgring [sic]' of wheelchair racing. The Nurburgring is a Formula One racetrack in Nurburg, Germany. Its Grand Prix track was built in 1984.
While repairing Maurice Minnifield's wine fridge compressor, the character Ted Banks is wearing what appears to be a brand new Seattle Seahawks jersey number 63.
No Seahawk wore number 63 between 1992 and 1996.
This episode from season 5 dates from spring of 1994.
The last previous Seahawk to wear 63 was offensive tackle Ronnie Lee during the 1991 season.
