Episode: #1.14, "They're Tearing Down Tim Riley's Bar" originally aired on 20 January 1971. The last eight minutes were inadvertently blacked out in some major markets and only the dialogue was heard over a "Please Stand By" graphic. Viewer uproar over missing the end of the episode caused some network affiliates to air the conclusion of the episode during the evening news the next night, January 21.
The segment "They're Tearing Down Tim Riley's Bar" was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1971 for Outstanding Drama but lost to The Andersonville Trial (1970). It was was one of only two nominations for the show, the other being for Outstanding Makeup for "Pickman's Model".
Like the central character Randy Lane, both writer Rod Serling and actor William Windom were Army paratrooper vets of World War II, Serling, in the Pacific Theatre; Windom in the European Theatre.
