Dick gets emotional
Jimmy_the_Gent426 March 2018
Michael and the staff try to get Dick to be more animated on his show in order to get a Vermont TV award.

A good episode and the first appearance of Fred Applegate as J.J. the sarcastic Vermont Today director. Len (Richard Stahl) and Bud (Ralph Manza) also supply some laughs. Larry and the Darryls perform a show for sick Stephanie with ant puppets and the song "High Hopes". Funniest scene is when Dick tries to show emotion while a interviewing a prim librarian (a pre Golden Girls Estelle Getty). The staff apply some fog machines and echo effects.

Going for the Gold
Hitchcoc5 March 2023
Dick finishes his stodgy show and is ready to go home. Michael comes to him and tells him if he could have more personality, he could win a broadcasting award. Of course, Dick rejects it categorically, sticking to his scruples. Until he has an epiphany and lusts after the award. What transpires is a show that is absolutely hilarious. First of all, Dick acts like an idiot. He sulks, he cries, he does a little dance. Soon, however, it gets much worse. His staff throw every tasteless thing they can into the show. Hilarious!

There are some other bits going on. Stephanie has a cold which will keep her out of commission for nine days. While in be, Larry and the boys put on a puppet show based on "High Hopes." The three play ants. Anyway, it is a stellar end to the third season.
