Maison Hubert burns down. Who is responsible? Surely not mild-mannered Dick? And is Hubert out for revenge?
I agree with other reviewers who claimed Hubert was over the top. Still, he is supposed to be French.
Apart from that, this episode is another last-minute bit of hilarity emanating from "Newhart" in its final gasps. Dick Louden's fear of Hubert is very funny. It's not a stratospheric comedy like "Murder at the Stratley" but it does head the viewer toward the end of the series, with the closing of the town's swankiest restaurant.
For those who point out the incongruity of Dick smoking, when in previous episodes it was established he didn't smoke ("Dick the Kid") and didn't like the smell of cigarettes ("Draw, Partner"). I don't know if Newhart smoked in real life but the cigar does seem an odd touch.
