Ducklings to Warm the Heart
It's a beautiful spring day and Nanny (Juliet Mills) takes the children to the park to play. Butch (Trent Lehman) and Hal (David Doremus) come across three young yellow ducklings. A concerned citizen of the earth Professor Clarendon (one of the last roles for Edward Everett Horton- "F Troop", "Arsenic and Old Lace", "Top Hat") sees the discovery and worries for the safety of the ducklings. Nanny and the kids take them home to care for. Soon a policeman (popular character actor J. Pat O'Malley) comes to the Everett household to inform Nanny that she has taken city property and is to appear in court under those charges. In his private chamber, Judge Rousch (distinguished character actor Cecil Kellaway- "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner", "The Postman Always Rings Twice", in one of his final roles) hears Nanny's plea of not guilty for that the ducks cannot be city property. The judge agrees with Nanny to put them in the care of the zoologist Professor Clarendon, who was the one who made the complaint against her. Nanny and the children goes to visit Professor Clarendon and after a warm, insightful talk they all go in search of the duckling's mother. Like all episodes to date, with the exception of "Nanny on Wheels", the laughs are light and rare, but the plot in this one is quite nice.
