It's true, according to Chinese lore, should you save someone's life, they are indebted to you forever!
Naturally, this situation has been re-worked into dozens of sitcoms, and now with Robbie and a Chinese girl called Terry (played by Irene Tsu).
Robbie pushes Terry out of the way of a speeding truck --and guess what??? Terry is now his slave, and what a predicament. It's strange to see this sort of thing happening to Robbie, being the older brother whose supposed to set the standards for all, but he goes along with the game for awhile.
Robbie introduces Terry around high school to his amazed friends, only to discover she MUST go EVERYWHERE with him --even to the barbershop. Heaven forbid! This is when the page turns, and Robbie has to do something before he winds up having to marry Terry! You have to admit, they do make a nice couple.
Another goofy episode, and with Ernie (wearing a blue robe) and relaying wise, old Chinese sayings, sounding like Charlie Chan. In fact, popular character actor Benson Fong, who played Charlie Chan's son, Tommy, in many films, plays a dual role as Steve's co-worker and Terry's wise, old grandfather. The makeup is excellent and Benson shows why he's such a great actor.
Irene Tsu (born in China) was a popular actress on tv at the time, appearing in many cop shows, later retiring to sell real estate in LA, although she does occasional movie work and probably signs lots of autographs.
I agree with the notes; while Robbie does push Terry out of the way from the truck, she actually was safe because the truck veered right and hit the sidewalk while Terry was mid-way across the street!
A top episode, and with some international flavor and nice wardrobe changes. Love the colors. Thumbs up for series director James V. Kern, one of the best.
