ALL EYES ON ERNIE, THE COMEBACK KID.
We all wanted a step brother like Ernie, because he was such a cool kid. This episode continues the adoption saga, and whether he will FINALLY be a part of the Douglas family.
You know its coming, right?
But there's still a lot of red tape, and negotations thereof between case worker Vera Miles and Steve. I actually thought she would stick around the series as Steve's love interest, but it didn't go that way, and that's a shame because Vera Miles and Fred MacMurray complimented each other. This again brings up the fact the writers were toying with the idea of eventually getting Steve a steady gal pal, or a wife. MY THREE SONS, you have to admit, was also a mini soap opera at times.
Best scene is the hearing before a judge, who also asks Uncle Charlie some questions, since there is no real lady of the house. Charlie mentions bedtime stories --such as MOBY DICK?
"He's a whale!" he tells the judge, who does the proverbial double take times two.
Steve officially signs on the dotted line... and Ernie joins the gang! This was perhaps one of the fondest family episodes, next to Robbie and Katie's eventual marriage. Also Uncle Charlie isn't scowling and complaining as much, who really takes a liking to Ernie.
Stanley Livingston was the real-life brother of Barry Livingston (Chip), but they really didn't look much alike! That was always the stumbling block. Stanley, who would appear in over 200 episodes of the series, was somewhat of a tv veteran by the time he joined MY THREE SONS. Prior to this series, he was also on the OZZIE AND HARRIET SHOW and made two appearances on Lucille Ball's tv show. Let's face it. If you're on any show with Lucy, you're going places.
A fun episode with some very good acting. SEASON 6, EPISODE 3, remastered dvd box set.
